I wanted to ask opinions on what you guys keep by the bed as a nighttime bedroom gun?

My instant open bio safe has a G34 and 3 mags and I keep a Mossberg 500 with a light attached within arms reach

Question is this - Do I swap out the Mossberg for my new Ruger PC9 carbine which takes the same mags as my G34? I will need to add a light if so

Or....Is the Shotgun with 00 Buckshot a way better tool for dispatching scumbags?

However your setup is, the moment you use a firearm to " dispatch scumbags ", you'll be in for a lot of serious trouble. Why? you live in the SF Bay Area, that's why.

Unless you've lived under a rock the last year......you should have heard how an illegal alien and a career criminal was exonerated in the courts there when he used an illegally obtained firearm, fired it, and " accidentally " hit and killed a pretty young woman visiting San Francisco while she and her father was walking by the waterway near the Embarcadero.

Don't you know by now....illegals and criminals have more rights than you, especially in California and SF Bay Area? You are supposed to love them, embrace them, provide for their education and welfare, feed them as if they are your own.

Here you are in this forum, calling them " scumbags ", and wanting to " dispatch " them.

As if the G34 and the 12 gauge Mossberg is not lethal enough for your intended purpose.

My wife and I both have Beretta 92s in our nightstands. There is also a KSG and a Vepr-12 in our bedroom, as well as an XD45 in the closet. There are three other XD45s with multiple mags situated throughout the house, and an 870 under the workbench in the garage. We have run drills with our kids, established likely cover points and lines of fire, multiple back-up plans, escape plans, meeting points etc. Also have an alarm, motion lights, cameras and a dog. Breaking into our home would be..... a poor choice.

My place is only 20 x 20 the dog sleeps next to the door and there is only one way in. I rotate through a few different hand guns on the night stand, but I'm betting on the dog!

HK P2000 9mm with light and laser. I could keep an AR9 next to the bed, but in CA with the 16" barrel it's longer than I would like for HD. Ideal with be a short barrel carbine with suppressor.

Why no spare mags?

For the same reason I shoot an 8 round 1911 and not a 16 round Glock. Other than that I don't live in a fantasy world where some dirtbag is going to enter my house and be heavily armed. I live a simple life.

So you live in a fantasy world where some dirtbag is going to break in and be lightly armed? I don't find any fault in your choice of weaponry, but the reasoning seems a little odd. I guess in the end it all washes out the same.

I doubt most people are going to be able to count on a 35' shot in their home, and 12" doesn't really eliminate the need to aim properly IMO but you carry on as you see fit. I'm on board with 12ga, it is, as they say, for those times when you care enough to send the very best.
