    Guns Kept by the Bed

I wanted to ask opinions on what you guys keep by the bed as a nighttime bedroom gun?

My instant open bio safe has a G34 and 3 mags and I keep a Mossberg 500 with a light attached within arms reach

Question is this - Do I swap out the Mossberg for my new Ruger PC9 carbine which takes the same mags as my G34? I will need to add a light if so

Or....Is the Shotgun with 00 Buckshot a way better tool for dispatching scumbags?

I keep my cellphone charged and on camera mode to call the police and record the bad guys.

Realistically it depends on your house, and your skill/confidence with each weapon. I like 9mm, and the compact size of a handgun in an inclosed location. If I was going to have a rifle, I'd rather have a bigger caliber.

If you have a woman in the house, the PC9 might be a good option, but I think you're setup is pretty gravy as is. If you wanted to change anything I'd say use an AR or other high-cal rifle as your bedside.

All the talk of over penetration and blah blah blah, I don't care. If my life is in jeopardy and I need to take out multiple attackers or feel my handgun is insignificant I want to make sure whoever is on the other end of my rifle no longer poses a threat to me.

AR pistol with an Aimpoint and a light. A suppressor is the next addition.

1911 railed with light/laser and .38 wheel gun are in a biometric quick access safe next to bed and AR-10 and 15 below bed in secured storage drawer, along with noise cancelling ear pro.

Safe has other goodies but need to reach it first.

Either a .380 or .45acp on my side (depending on my mood and season) and a Mossberg SPX on the wife's side.

Keep the Mossy, 34 as backup.. 12g gives you the opportunity to not be exactly on target within a hallway.

00 Buck > 9mm for dispatching bad guys (generally speaking)

However, if you don't need a free hand for the phone, wrangling children, etc., the PC9 might be a better replacement for the G34...and keeping the shotgun in case things really get bad.

There may be tradeoffs of course...limited capacity of the shotgun, wife doesn't handle 00 Buck very well, not as compact as a pistol to navigate tight areas, etc.

Only you know all the elements of your situation.

I keep a Wilson Combat 45 and a Benelli m4 by the bed. YMMV.

                  Think your pretty good

That is pretty much the setup I ran until little ones came into my life (9mm/12gauge.) I know some will say swap the gauge for a AR, but 12 gauge was the only weapon I have ever heard a felon express fear of while on the job and that always stuck with me If you ever treated what was left of someone shot by one you understand why!

One thing that needs to be emphasized is if you have battery-powered accessories, especially ones powered by Silver-oxide batteries, test them WEEKLY. Those buggers die at the most inconvenient times.

Pretty hard to beat the auditory intimidation of a pump shotgun being cycled. Honestly, IMO it is much easier to clear a house with a handgun than any type of long gun. Have you ever tried to work your corners and doorways with a shotgun or carbine?

+1 on the shotgun. 9 times out of 10 I wouldn't grab the AR for anything in the house. They are there for more lawless group-activity scenarios.

I have a Mossberg 500 in a Bullpup unlimited chassis behind the headboard and a 9mm in a quick access safe. The Bullpup sure beats a full size shotgun indoors.
