Inside Ear - Ear Protection - recommendations

Looking for suggestions on some quality ear protection. Inside Ear type, not ear muffs.

These will be for my wife. No off the shelf ones we've tried she likes. Apparently she has very tiny ear canals. I'm guessing custom molded ones would be best.

I am struggling to figure out what to get her for our Anniversary... she has everything and this is something I know she wants/needs and would never buy herself.

    Thanks fellas and gals.

    Electronic or just plugs?
I use both of these for different things and both are very good quality.

The Etymotics have a wide range of tips and you can also find the memory foam ones that are extremely comfortable.
The custom molded work very well, fit perfect (since they're custom made) but (for me) the process was rather uncomfortable. I might just have sensitive ear canals, I don't know.

You might want to look outside the shooting industry...

For example, heavy industrial use or even the music industry...

I'm not sure if ultrasonic or not. I want to get her something that is going to protect her hearing and be comfortable so that she actually uses them.

We do most of our shooting indoors so need something with better noise protection.

Yeah... all the sites I found from quick searched were for music industry.

Shooting indoors I almost always feel the need to double up anyway, plugs and muffs, due to the acoustics. The sound really reverberates at some indoor ranges.

Yeah. She doubles up indoors. But after an hour, poor gals ears hurt because the plugs don't fit right in her ears. We recently got her some of this putty type that seem to work better but as I said, thinking of buying her some better ones as a gift.

The custom molded work better than any other type of earplug I've tried. Its worth the time to have a set made. The guy from Superior Sound is mobile and met me at a coffee shop to do the mold. No matter a person's ear shape or size they'll get a good fit. The down side is finding time to do the mold and, of course, the extra cost compared to regular plugs.

Howard Leight makes cheap foam ones that are pink instead of orange, just for people with smaller ear canals. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Howard-Le...-Pair/28502335

We had some custom made a few years ago. They take a little getting used to, but I like them. Subjectively they provide much better sound reduction than any other ear plug I've used.

We had then made at one of the SoCal gun shows. I don't recall who we bought them from.

Ask around there should be a ENT Doctor or hearing aid company around which will custom mold in ear hearing protectors for her. Don’t cheap out!

I have real good electronic inner ear protection with 27dB noise reduction. I still double up indoors with over the ear protection on top of that. Guys firing their 44 mag or Desert Eagle with hot rounds next to you do make a lot of noise amplified by everything around.
