    Question about Reno Gun Shows

the Brady website also has Nevada as a state with the gunshow loophole.

My question is for anyone whom has gone to the Reno gunshows, is this the case? I heard they were requiring I.D. checks there at the Reno gunshows lately. If anyone has been lately - or is going to go to the ones in April / May 2009 - is this true? Have they repealed the gunshow loophole in Reno.

sorry dudes. I'll try to bite curb my wicked tongue a bit next time.
Not trying to get someone (myself included) in trouble here.
I am just trying to better understand the state of the current AW ban state by state, to better improve my understanding of the effect that the new bill being tossed aroung by Holder and Pelosi will have on all the states.
No doubt California sucks, but it would be a shame to see Nevada go the same route. Just wanted someone to speak up whom had a working knowledge of the Reno gunshows. thx.

alot of people confuse what is physically possible and what is legally allowed

a person can stab you in the neck but generally speaking it is illegal to stab someone in the neck(there are exceptions to this but it is too complicated to be fuly understood by laymen)

The posting on the Brady website is nonsensical. State and federal laws apply at a gun show just as they do at a flea market, a garage sale or buying out of someone's living room after reading an advert in the "Nifty Nickel".

So far as purchasing guns is concerned, knowing the laws of the state in which you reside (and can purchase guns) and knowing federal law should be sufficient. If you are a CA resident you can not purchase a gun while in another state unless you have the gun transferred via FFL.

If you go to the show and see a gun you like, there are I'm sure many CA FFLs present who will be able to help.

From what I've read it sounds like they are hip to Californians doing this. I Googled it one time out of curiosity. Then I found Calguns and lost all interest.

When I lived in Texas and Georgia I bought guns privately at the shows, and it was completely legal. In fact, one guy at a show in Texas had so many guns for sale I thought he was a dealer, until he handed me the shotgun, took my cash, and thanked me.

Word is, Feds are going to be all over the Reno shows.

Do it legal, or face the consequences.

I'll say this. When I went to the "Big" Reno show last November i was a complete noob to out of state gun shows and I was very naive about State and Federal laws pertaining to firearms. I was looking at an M1 Garand and a really nice 1911 and was asking the booth operator about them. As soon as the fact that I live in California exited my mouth he quickly grabbed the 1911 from my hand and quickly locked up both guns. I asked "What's wrong?" and I think by the stunned look on my face he realized I was no LEO. he then apologized and explained to me that he can't even talk to me about the sale of a gun and he would not let me handle any of his guns. he proceeded to explain the ramifications of doing so and said the only way he can sell a gun to a California resident is if they held a valid FFL. Then I said that I was there with my friend who is an FFL I can just have him come by a pick them up for me. That's when I learned all about "proxy" gun sales and that doing so would land all of us in hot water.

So the gist of my post is this... if you go to an out of state gun show DO NOT even think about buying a firearm. Buy all the ammo and accessories and parts you want, but forget about anything with a serial #.
I like my ammo like I like my women, cheap and dirty!

My understanding is that you can purchase a gun in another state - shop, show or some guy - but not take delivery. You have to have a local FFL ship it to an FFL in California, go through the usual CA purchase paperwork and waiting period. And the gun has to be CA legal. So if you are at a Reno gun show you can easily buy from local FFLs.

                          Is this correct?
