Sight pusher ?

For Glocks I just use a nylon punch.
Everything else I try using a sight pusher to remove first but find it easier and faster to just put the slide in a vise and punch the old sights out. Then i use the pusher to install and if it doesnt go in smoothly, I fit the sight until it does. I had some Sig sights that were in really tight, no pusher would budge them. Finally got them out with a punch.CRPA and NRA member.

Has anyone tried using the Wheeler? Looks to be high quality and very similar to the MGW that's been recommended several times in this thread but about half the price. I've considered it but it'll take a while for me to get my monies worth out of the Wheeler let alone the MGW. Changing sights just isn't something I do very often.

That's also my favorite.
It's different from most in that it clamps the top and bottom and sides instead of just the sides of the slide.
This helps a lot and also makes it possible to work on sides that are not flat on the sides (HK P30 for example).Randall Rausch

OP - I first chose a universal sight pusher because its 1/3 Of the price of the MGW sight pusher. Regretted that decision because my sights were marred and damaged some slides. I got fed up with it and coughed up the $ for the MGW sight pusher. Should've never bought a generic sight pusher to save money. MGW is the way to go.sigpicComment

A little tip that might help with small adjustments.
Use a mechanical pencil and mark the edge of the sight on the bottom of the dovetail channel. Mark both sides of the sight. It'll be black on black, but you can still see it. Move it around in the light to see the difference in reflectivity of the surface if you're having a hard time.
When you use the sight pusher to make a little adjustment, you can now see how much you moved it by the marks you made."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

I bought mine form a CGer a few years back. I don't recall the name of the guy, but it should (maybe?) come up in a search. It was well built and easy to use on my Kimber. It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.Comment

Great tip! Thanks.

Another alternative to a sight pusher is sending in your slide to the sight manufacturer and having them install for free. I think Trij and Ameriglo provide this service.WTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longerComment

+1 on the NC Star. Very well made and it's fully adjustable and works with almost any pistol. I have one and have changed sights on my glock and 1911 both, with no issues. I also used it to align the rear on my Walther PPK/SI've used the Sight Pro and agree that it is excellent. However, if you are not really looking for a lifetime investment, this is a decent cheap one: https://www.amazon.com/NcStar-VTUPRS.../dp/B01HU4NNDE
Not in the same class at all, but it does the job and doesn't scratch up your gun. Mine came with a nice case too.Last edited by batman3n1; 03-15-2018, 3:51 PM.Comment
