Help me understand Glocks

If you're going to buy a Glock, whatever you do don't shoot a 1911, S&W 59, CZ 75, Browning Hi Power, Beretta 92, Taurus 92, Hi Point C9, etc... first or you might not like it.

They come in different sizes. Small,medium,large.
Different calibers,different power levels, .380,9mm,.40s&w,.45acp,357sig,10mm.
Reliabilty in affordable packages.
There's even a full auto version.

That really sums it up. I will add that Glock has the GSSF--Glock Shooting Sports Foundation. The GSSF runs shooting matches for Glock owners all over the USA with many in California. They are safe and well run with drawings (2 of my friends have won Glocks, I've won a couple hundred dollars over the decades.) And every match I've been to has a Glock armorer there who will install factory upgrades, install new sights and solve most any other problems you might be having. Membership is like $35/year with discounts for multi-year memberships. Membership also includes your annual Get a Glock cheap card with which you can purchase a Glock at police department pricing.
e.g. My last G-19 was $487 or so out the door.
If you buy a 1-year membership you wait a year for that card, buy a 2 or more year membership and they send the card immediately.

The sum of the parts is greater than the whole when it comes to Glocks. I initially did not care much for them, and because of the grip angle when I fired friend's Glocks, I could not hit the broad side of the barn.

Finally one day, I decided ok, let me take this seriously and put 50 rounds through a Glock, and I realized I wasn't going to be shooting a tack driver, but this was a gun that was consistent in its trigger pull and consistent in firing.

What really drew me to it, was the low bore axis and how it dropped into my hand consistently.

I initially didn't like the blockiness of the Glock, and the mushy trigger. It may have been blocky but it dropped into my hands consistently and when I fired it, it was just very consistent. My Sigs may have the better single action trigger but because it is DA/SA it isn't consistent. The Sig may initially have the better ergonomics but because of the higher bore axis, I have to hold it in a particular way to keep the muzzle flip down. With the Glock, I don't have to think about it as much.

Because of the Sig build and the nice SA trigger, I probably group better with my p226 but if it comes to home defense, I don't feel I am grabbing anything inferior if I were to grab a Glock.

Hard to describe it, but I just feel I don't have to think as much with the Glock (ie. 60/40 grip, locking wrist, etc etc) Don't get me wrong I still practice good form with both Sig's and Glocks. I just don't have to think about it as much.

Before I get thrown in with the Glock fan boy crowd, Sig's are my favorites. It is just I have come to like the Glocks a great deal now, and that wasn't always the case.

I am fairly new to guns and have been following this forum for a while. Overall, Glocks appear to have the biggest fan base than any other brand. Like I said, I am fairly new to the sport, but I just don't see the fascination of Glocks.

I asked one of my LGS and the gentleman said they are like Hondas (implying great, reliable, comfortable, affordable and not very exciting). So, please let me know what I have failed to understand about Glocks. I have an itch to make a purchase and would be open to purchasing a Glock.

I can go with the Honda analogy. I have a bunch of them and shoot them a lot, great guns, but I would strongly advise you to try as many handguns as you can and see if they fit your hand before you buy your first handgun. Don't let anyone sway you one way or the other, go to the range and rent some guns: Glocks, 1911, M&Ps, whatever else you can get your hands on. If you have some friends who shoot, inivite them to the range and ask them if you can shoot their guns. Make sure they fit your hand and your trigger finger can press the trigger properly. This is critical.
