but due to their thinner grips, they require a little more practice to shoot quickly and accurately.

I shot and considered the other options recommended here and yet settled on the three listed above.

The Glocks and the Shield will have a wider selection of accessories,

sights and holsters due to their huge popularity in the market place.

Currently, my go to CCW is the G43...
I found the Shiled grip to be a bit sharp and uncomfortable in the inside of my middle finger on my shooting hand, I picked up a Hogue 18400 HandAll sleeve Grip grip for the shild and WOW! The shild feels amazing in my hand now. Best $13 I ever spent. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

XD9 subcompact add a Powder River Precision drop in trigger kit and call it a day.

but really go shoot what your range has and decide what YOU like. Remember range guns get used and abused so pay attention to those guns quality and how they're holding up after being beat on

            This.

There has been a lot of good advice posted on this thread which can help with your decision, but ultimately it's all about what you think is comfortable and what you can shoot safely and accurately.

Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

                        I hate the XD sub-compact.

My competition gun is an XD Service 40 bitone, 4". A 4" or 5" (tactical) is great for HD or the range.

For CCW, the XDs is much better than the sub compact. They usually sell for $750 off roster, so maybe over the OP's budget. They are like the sheild, for size as far as I know. Mine is a 3.3" 45acp and it is very fun to shoot and it is small. Of course you should practice with something that may be carried or used for defense, but the small guns fill a small role at the range, unless you are just practicing with them or shooting IDPA (also practice, for defense style shooting).

The sub is as fat as a full size, and the XDs is slim and single stack.

For plastic guns, it seems the XD, M&P, and glocks are all similar and have small and large options. Pick your flavor!

Weight is no issue for actually shooting the gun, if you are in good health and experienced at shooting.

The XDs is light weight but not as light as a feather weight revolver. Pick up a Smith x frame, at 4.5 pounds (unloaded) and you will know heavy. Even my Ruger Hunter 6 7/8" is quite heavy, but many people love to shoot it.

The mag will add balance to the XD and after time, you get used to the weight distribution of a pistol/rifle. My AR 9 felt light at the barrel end compared to the same thing in a 5.56, due to the extra length and comp on the 5.56. After using the 9mm more, it feels just fine. Each firearm has it's own feel and you learn to pick up any of them and properly hold and use them without a second thought, as long as it isn't a total mismatch for your body.

@MilsurpC I chose the GL19 for HD target shooting for a couple of reasons one being the price I was able to pay at this time. My Gl21, which I like immensely, is my first choice as my HD for a number of reasons including the points you made. Some of the points you made were the very same points that entered my mind when deciding between the 19 and the 26. I’ve been interested in a 9mm for some time now. Ammo is cheaper and I just wanted something lighter and maybe a bit smaller. Hope this clears things up some for you.
