Does it really matter who is right or wrong here? Either way the choice is clear: Stock-Up.

The sales tax is part of the fallout of Cabela's being bought out by Bass Pro. When Cabela's did not have a California presence they did not have to charge sales tax, now they do.

Bought a scope last night. Charged me sales tax but I got a 10% discount for being a vet plus free shipping.

The bit of Penal Code in question is
                    http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...ctionNum=16150.

PC 30305(b) does not apply to 'ammunition' for those not prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

The response to that seems to be 'well. how do we know the customer is not prohibited?'; the answer is 'prohibited persons are not allowed to buy complete ammunition, either - how do you handle that now?'
No, they are not going to jump threw the Cali legal loops and read up on them is the correct answer. To much trouble to deal with so they just don't deal. There will be a lawsuit where another AG sues an company for selling parts. Stop blaming others for not playing Cali games, people. Blame the state gov.

The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

                      Oh, we do.

I just want the companies to do that same thing, explicitly, not mis-state the law.

Live here and you'd know the truth. Even if Montana went blue, I'd still have more freedom than you. If you knew history, you would know that Montana swings blue to red all the time.

I drive by four different Cabelas twice each week.
No need for shipping for me.
Well, once. The shooting bench wouldn't fit in my cab, and I got free shipping.

No, you're not correct. The law clearly does not affect reloading components as you so incorrectly state it does. Yes, a misinterpretation of the law might affect them but, a misinterpretation of any law cold affect anything. The fact is that it will not be illegal to purchase reloading components without going through a licensed ammunition vendor. It is up to each vendor to make their own policies and it always has been that way. Plenty of vendors choose not to do business where it is legal to do so. that is their right just as much as it is your right to choose who you will do business with.
