CABELAS - no brass or bullets...

I’m glad I never believed all of the amateur lawyers on these boards that said that reloading components were NOT affected by the ammunition bill/ballot proposal. They way I read it I clearly believed that, while not specifically spoken to directly, components could/would be interpreted by many retailers as being prohibited to ship. I stocked up on all of the rifle components that I usually reload just in case...glad I did.

I called Midway USA and they said “it has not yet been determined” whether they will ship components or not.

BTW - Cabelas just started charging sales tax last week...

I am done with them. If I pay sales tax I might just as well buy the same stuff from the Bass Pro that is near me.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Yup just did a trial order and showed sales tax, besides that they would not ship brass to my PO box.
Guess I'll just wait until were back in Idaho this spring.

Why are they including Magazines and Speedloaders in their new policy? Did I miss a law passed recently????

Wait, what? So we can still buy bullets at Turners locally but not Cabelas? Sounds like a huge lie to push sales.

From what I understand, they are now part of Bass Pro Shops. Since Bass Pro has stores in CA, they are required to charge CA sales tax.

                        No.

Cabelas and others appear to be unable to hire competent legal help.

The bit of Penal Code in question is
                        16150.

                        (a) As used in this part, except in subdivision (a) of Section 30305 and in Section 30306, “ammunition” means one or more loaded cartridges consisting of a primed case, propellant, and with one or more projectiles. “Ammunition” does not include blanks.

                        (b) As used in subdivision (a) of Section 30305
                        30305.

                        (a) (1) No person prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 29800) or Chapter 3 (commencing with Section 29900) of Division 9 of this title, or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, shall own, possess, or have under custody or control, any ammunition or reloaded ammunition.
                        and in Section 30306
                        30306.

                        (a) Any person, corporation, firm, or other business enterprise who supplies, delivers, sells, or gives possession or control of, any ammunition to any person who he or she knows or using reasonable care should know is prohibited from owning, possessing, or having under custody or control, any ammunition or reloaded ammunition pursuant to subdivision (a) or (b) of Section 30305, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.
“ammunition” includes, but is not limited to, any bullet, cartridge, magazine, clip, speed loader, autoloader, or projectile capable of being fired from a firearm with a deadly consequence. “Ammunition” does not include blanks.
                        http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...ctionNum=16150.

PC 30305(b) does not apply to 'ammunition' for those not prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

The response to that seems to be 'well. how do we know the customer is not prohibited?'; the answer is 'prohibited persons are not allowed to buy complete ammunition, either - how do you handle that now?'

Well hopefully they relent but I think others will make the same type of interpretation.

It’s this part that causes the confusion: “ammunition” includes, but is not limited to, any bullet, cartridge, magazine, clip, speed loader, autoloader, or projectile capable of being fired from a firearm with a deadly consequence. “Ammunition” does not include blanks.”

Cabelas may feel that the burden of determining who is a prohibited person falls on them and they don’t want to deal with it. Thanks for posting

I just placed what will likely be my final ammo order from them. I used the CALAMMO free shipping promo code and my Club Points covered the sales tax.

Future orders will be focused on components from vendors who will continue to ship them to CA.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

Well, brass and bullets are not affected by the new laws. Unfortunately, some vendors make decisions based on other factors besides the actual law. You can believe or not believe anything you want. The simple fact is that if you really want to know the law, you need to read it for yourself. I'll say it again, reloading components are not affected by the new ammunition laws. BTW, your post is so full of fail, I can't believe you actually posted it. If you think that components will be legally affected, please explain why you think that. If you are just saying that certain vendors may change their policies, that's ALWAYS happening. There are major vendors who won't ship AR 15 cleaning rod to CA. Amazon won't ship Red Ryder BB guns to CA. That doesn't mean that some law was the basis for policies like those, does it?
