    Bullet stuck in barrel

So this is a new one fore me and it happened twice today. I racked a round and my bolt got stuck and when i pulled the trigger i just heard a click. I didnt get a primer strike but when i racked the bolt back which took a hell of a lot of force only the casing came out. I had to use a cleaning rod to get the bullet out of my barrel.

    Any ideas?

Yeah, off the top of my head, the chamber isn't cut right. Smiths, school me if I'm wrong, please.

From the photo, there's powder everywhere. did you chamber a round, it didn't fit and then pulled it out with the bullet stuck in the barrel and the case and powder came out making a mess?

I had to muscle the bolt back but yeah when i got it back the casing flew out spilling powder and leaving the bullet in the barrel.

You need an experienced smith to weigh in. I had the same issue with a Semi 6.5 Creemoor. The 120 grain hornady bullet shot fine. The 140 grain bullet got stuck every time. I had to send the upper back in. I learned the reamer was out of speck by the tiniest amount.

After it was re-cut, it shoots lights out. Good to ask questions. There are knowledgeable people here.

Oh yeah, it's funny the first time you leave a pile of gunpowder on the carpet and let your wife vacuum it up and HAAWOOOOMPHHHH. She will have to quiet the fire detectors. You will have to buy a new vacuum and apologize. Just remember, video tape it. unfortunately, I didn't video it. And, the hell with the cat. Don't let her use the cat against you.

            Good luck

It was m855 and i think federal*. Not sure some old loose rounds that worked 100% until now. Heres the info on the case.

I'm going to go with the round wasn't seated far enough and then crimped.

Could it be a mag issue? It seemed to only happed with one specific mag.

You should check the chamber with a go/no go gauge, Preferably have someone look at it other than Bubba. Good thing the primer didn't strike.

Could be an issue with the magazine, seems unlikely. If the bullet is set so far forward in its casing the the crimp didn't hold, and it caught the rifling, that makes sense to me- but you say this isn't a reload.

Any chance this is a 223 barrel?
Some 5.56 ammo may be too long to fit into some 223 throats.

                        No.
                        It's an ammo/barrel fit problem.
You probably filled that mag from the same box of ammo.

Checking headspace will tell you nothing about where the bullet got stuck.

A chamber can be completely within headspace specs and still show this problem.

"FC" is Federal, don't know what the rest means. No green tip, but the real reason I know it's not genuine M855 (or M193, for that matter), it that it doesn't have the NATO cross-in-a-circle stamp.

Old bag of loose rounds? Sounds like mystery reloads to me, would be surprised if they weren't a little out of spec, even though they might work ok most of the time.
