The first Big Reno Show of 2018, I will be buying a couple thousand rounds of ammo at the Miwall booth just to see if I get stopped on the way home.

aren't you a LEO? or at least a retired LEO? you guys will get free passes from anyone checking at the border. the same way that you guys get free passes to break minor vehicle codes like speeding, tint levels, no front license plates, etc.

get your non-LEO buddies to do the same then we can really see if they will be serious about enforcing.

You obviously don't know the CHP, many of them would cite their own mother.
Also my decision and ability to do this without worrying about any repercussions has nothing to do with me being a retired LEO but thanks for playing.

TRICKSTER has it right... read the law. It is both unenforceable and first offense is an infraction and second a possible misdemeanor:

          (a) Commencing January 1, 2018, a resident of this state shall not bring or transport into this state any ammunition that he or she purchased or otherwise obtained from outside of this state unless he or she first has that ammunition delivered to a licensed ammunition vendor for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 30312.

          (b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any of the following:
          ...
          ...
          (6) A person who acquired the ammunition from a spouse, registered domestic partner, or immediate family member as defined in Section 16720.

          (c) A violation of this section is an infraction for any first time offense, and either an infraction or a misdemeanor for any subsequent offense.
Anyone getting an infraction for this would have to be driving with a box of ammo on their dash when pulled over by the CHP (for whatever reason) on a stretch of road that has no interchanges after crossing the border. Just think of what the odds would be for it to happen twice in order to have a chance at a misdemeanor.

I would bet good money that the state has no intention of putting money into trying to enforce this.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

I'm sure we are all thinking there will be but its all been silent up until this point. Sure we can hope there will be an injunction but don't hold your breath.

Pretty sure folks on CG were talking about the impending ban after last years election. That should have been a hint to stock up. You did have a whole year (2017) to do so. Still 2 months left in the year...

Lots of folks getting their 03 and COE in preparation for next year. Just renewed my COE and that took awhile.

That only goes so far before you have stacks of ammo boxes or cans stacked every which way possible.

Been following this thread of vendors that will keep shipping here. It almost seems like everyone gets a different answer depending on who they talk to.

Me too. I'm shooting a lot less .30 and .303 than I used to, I imagine my kids are going to be wondering how the heck to get rid of it all in another 20 years.

Your kids will love you for leaving them what's going to be considered hazardous waste.

I can't stockpile like a lot of you guys are doing and I'm already at my practical limit.

I just know it's going to suck when I run out.

Suggest if your funds are limited, buy the ammo on-line within the next few weeks that is difficult to find locally (6.5 Grendel, 45-70 Government, 6mm, 7mm).

if CA can't even stop people from crossing the small border with mexico, i really doubt they can stop ammo smugglers from crossing a border that is multitudes bigger. CA can't afford to patrol all roads, trails, docks that lead into CA.
Years ago on a road trip to a Ghost Town, just driving around and looking for anything old, It wasn't until much later I found out how many times we crossed back and forth over the California/Nevada border. We never saw anybody and we drove past lots of fence line and never ran into a closed road. This was all done in a four door sedan, no 4 wheel drive. Enterprise will pick you up....lol... Frankly I do not think it would be much of an issue as long as you did your homework and made a few dry runs. If it was obvious that a lot of traffic seemed to be traveling through the area, you know it would get noticed, and then all bets are off. I have old maps that list trails and old mines. That stuff is probably still available. Just my .02.

I've already got my FSC card, so why not be on another list?
I'll just get the new CRAP card when they come out.
