Toying with building a PCC in 10mm. Anyone know if this would make a decent gun for hogs or small deer. Some one once told me they hunted black bear with a 10mm pistol, which is where I got the idea.

10 mm for hunting???

Black bear are often shot while bayed or treed. Yes a 10mm will do it up close.
Anything past 25 yds and it is falling fast. -
It works. But are you a good enough hunter and shot to make it a clean kill? I carry a 10mm as a sidearm for that day a deer or pig is dumb enough to wander into 30’ or less of range. It hasn’t happened yet but it might one day.
I see no point of using it in a PCC as a hunting long gun. There are better options for long guns.Comment

^Cant use solid rounds for hunting in CA. Also as Spyder has mentioned I’m stuck with a 155 grain as the heaviest copper hollow point.Comment

I thought about it, then reconsidered. I have a 10mm Glock for up close encounters.Comment

I disagree - watch the videos. With the proper ammo, a 10mm will stop a bear. Of course, shot placement is important.Originally posted by boo2112Using a 10mm for bear defense is just as silly as using a .22LR for home defense (or even police use for that matter). You're counting on a REALLY lucky shot.Comment

Hard cast lead solids are (or were) ok for hunting. Not in copper zone though.Comment

Why? How do you know where OP will be hunting bear?Originally posted by boo2112Go to Canada or Alaska and ask a Ranger or a hunter what THEY carry for defense against bears. It won't be a 10mm.Comment
