ME: Honey, before we stop at Bass Pro we got to do one of those drive-through weddings.
        GF: Yay a Vegas wedding!
ME: But then after we go to Bass Pro we've got to do one of those drive through divorces.

GF: Going to Vegas is a lot more complex than it used to be.

ME: I know, but according to our politicians "it's for the children".
GF: Yay, we are going to have children!
ME: No, Wait, that's not what I meant!
I think I'm just going to order online now and we can skip the whole Vegas trip next year.

GF: Yay! I love online shopping. what are we getting? Something for our future children?

I've had a C&R License and a COE for over 12 years. However, I'm not sure how it's going to work with the ammo distributors next year. Midway keeps sending out e-mails that it's only set up to accept California ammo orders next year from holders of FFLs, meaning 01 dealers. Midway "acknowledges" that there are other exemptions, but that "at this time" it is not set up to handle that. Now, because of the "at this time" language, it may be that Midway is using the e-mail as a marketing ploy to push California customers to hurry up and buy now or not be able to in 2018. Then, when 2018 arrives it will announce the "good news" that it has finished software upgrades to allow for the other exemptions. We'll see.

I e-mailed other distributors that I buy from about the exemptions, but their responses have been very, very non-committal. The only place that I have found that will probably do it for sure is Aims Surplus. Since they sell many C&R long guns to California, they already have software to allow uploading the C&R license and the COE. Once uploaded, you're good to go. So, they should not have a problem with the C&R/COE exemption.

I started seriously stocking up on ammo just before the 2008 general election when it became clear that Obama was probably going to win. So, I am in very good shape now. To the rest of you, I wish you good luck.

Denver Dick, I was about the say the same thing...

I've also had both licenses for years and thought about using it starting next year to continue to order ammo through the mail. However, more and more distributors elect to just refuse ammo orders from non-FFL 01s altogether to save themselves from ambiguous (even though the PC reads plain as day) regulations or future headaches. The one distributor I've yet to inquire is SGAMMO and I really hope they will honor the COE and 03 FFL because they've always been good with pricing and service.

True. I was just pointing out that there is more than one way to follow the law and not have to go through a licensed ammunition vendor. I will be meeting my parents in Reno (they live in the Bay Area and I live in SoCal) once or twice a year just to visit and exchange gifts. Luckily, I have some friends there who would probably be willing to receive packages for me and hold them until I get up there.

FYI I emailed SGAmmo - they are not sure they are shipping at all to CA if the law stands. They are considering their options. Super bummer. They are one of my favorite suppliers!

C&R is $30 for three years.

COE is $71 initially. You have to do the Live Scan procedure first though.

You must pay the Live Scan
operator a $54 DOJ fingerprint processing fee and Bureau of Firearms (BOF) eligibility processing fee, a $17 FBI fingerprint
processing fee, as well as the Live Scan operator's fee (Note: the Live Scan operator fee varies by Live Scan site, and the
BOF does not regulate or set this price).

                          $71 plus $54 plus $17 plus whatever...

$22 for the annual renewal, no Live Scan needed for renewal.

And depending on how much the ammo venders will charge to receive a shipment for you, you might have to order thousands and thousands of rounds a year to break even with those fees.
