Being convicted of a firearm related misdemeanor, makes you a prohibited person for 1-5 years (length depends on the judge and/or DA's Office).
Being convicted of a felony, makes you a prohibited person for life.
As a prohibited person, you can not legally own/possess any firearms or ammunition.
Yeah lots at stake ^^^. Thanks.

Your call but I wouldn't break the law if I were you.

Carry what's legal such as pepper spray and/or a knife.

Your call, your risk, your problem if caught, not ours.
We can not advise you to break the law... people get banned for that.
Please keep in mind that it's only a misdemeanor if there are no aggravating conditions and the firearm is registered to you in the AFS system.

If the weapon is unregistered, then a first time offense is a felony.

Large, economy sized can of pepper spray and stun gun for close-in work.

Carry a sheriff. I saw one the other day that was small, and very carryable. Probably not concealable, no way she would fit under my shirt.

Pepper spray. Highly effective in a retreat scenario, which you should be doing. Honestly I don't think people realize the difficulty of using a firearm in self defence scenarios. Not to mention bad neighbourhoods are usually littered with scum everywhere. Not just 1 guy or 2.

It sucks but be alert and be smart. Even if this was AZ or LV where you can carry a firearm, if you don't use it properly you're going to be incarcerated, period.

I do evictions and property recovery... I would get a nice Pit bull, train him/her to be aggressive towards strangers.

One of the new laws passed against us homeowners/investors is Companion dogs where as we don't allow pets. One psychiatrist writes a letter to "Whom it may concern"
My point is dogs are becoming the largest issue, they all bite, and angry and they are often times commanded by their owners.
If I have a justifiable shooting it will be against an attack dog!! Move to a county that is CCW friendly. its a must to be CCW issued in our occupation I'm 35+ years in our county.

I carried a small pistol before I got my CCW. But I was living in the worse parts of LA at the time. Kept very low key and always avoided trouble. That was 20 years ago. Nowadays, I'd consider caring a compact can of bear spray instead of a pistol if I didn't have a CCW.

                        no, I wouldnt do it

one of the first things a LE does when questioning you for any reason is if you have any weapons? any contact with a police in a high crime , gang area and they will check.

I browsed through local sheriff dept inmate lists, and many of the people arrested were for carry a concealed firearm without a permit.

searching for firearms is very likely these days

just because you havent been searched before doesnt mean it wont happen, usually MURPHY'S LAW always happens when you least expect it to happen.

You know, that's actually pretty solid advice. A large, intimidating dog is an excellent deterrent. I would probably opt for a Shepherd like a GSD, Malinois, or Dutch Shepherd because people commonly associate those breeds with trained police dogs and would be even less likely to test you or your dog.

Train the dog to bark aggressively on command, 95% of the time that is enough to thwart anyone who might be up to no good.

It's a misdemeanor if "caught" and have no other charges or a record . In all honesty it would probably pled down.
Do you really think these Judges that plead every career criminal down to a slap on the wrist . Is going to lock someone up , take their guns all because he or she is hard working trying to support a family and protect themselves.

WRONG - Please check the Penal Code before posting stuff like this.

It's a misdemeanor if the weapon is registered to you and you have no aggravating conditions (which include prior conviction on enumerated charges), then it is a felony.

If the weapon is not registered to you (and is loaded or you have ammunition in your possession), then it's a felony. Period, nothing is else is required to make it a felony.

Please refer to Penal Code section 25400.

The felony charge is one for which the D.A. may reduce to a misdemeanor. There is no requirement for the D.A. to do so, even for a first offense. With a clean record, you would be safe is assuming that a rural D.A. would reduce. In the urban counties, plan on a felony filing.
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.
