      avoiding bad areas, keeping safe

other methods to deal with high crime areas:

*dont carry lots of cash or valuables

*dont show anything in public that will attract a thief, keep everything covered up or locked in the trunk out of public view

*dont park in a secluded area thats out of public view, higher chance on a mugging, choose your parking wisely, if you see any suspicious characters loitering around, dont park there.

*try to stay in decent physical condition, and learn some defense / fighting skills, even running as fast as you can can save your life.

*travel in groups, thieves prefer the easiest target people all alone, less chance on resistance

          By the numbers.

LE in Southern California in ALL departments from Santa Barbara to the Mexican Boarder is at most 23,000 sworn LE, to police an area of 56,512 Square Miles with a population of 22 Million.

IF you were to carry concealed the odds would be in your favor for not having any LE interaction. Since not all LE would be working at the same time the odds would be even lower.

IF caught the penalty could be loss of Right to Possess.

You are the only one that can chose what YOU will do in any given circumstance.

          Govern Yourself Accordingly.

curious why few replies asked i delete this thread? isn't this is a place to talk about real gun issues? i absolute understand the decision is ultimately mine and i never use this forum as a place for authorization or permission. hearing everyone's opinions give me perspective and attitude towards this subject and therefore aids me to my own decision. why the paranoia? has anyone here "actually" got subpoena or charged for their opinions spoken on forums? if yes, i would actually like to know how, what, and where.

Because everything you post online is searchable and can and will be used against you in court.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

I scanned this thread and did not see the registration issue addressed.

California law calls for a felony if the gun is not registered to you or not registered !
A gun registered to you and carried illegally is usually treated as misdemeanor or wobbler.
Take note, just because you bought the gun from an FFL and it should have been registered.
There is a nearly 25% chance the gun did not get registered by DOJ for whatever reason.
Under no circumstance should a gun be carried if you cannot prove where and when you bought it.
Possibly one of our knowledgable attorneys will expand on this important aspect to illegal CCWs !

Won't comment on providing illegal advice.

                      I will suggest the following:
Dress the part - Jeans, shirt and used up shoes. Nothing flashy. So no jewelry such as a necklace with a cross, or watch. If you need to wear sunglasses, get them at the local CVS.

Drive a beater, but reliable car. Don't have one? Buy one and write it off as a business expense.

Bring a friend with you as well.

Carry a taser. Some say to get pepper spray, but you can end up getting it on yourself, or your buddy.

Situational awareness. Don't be on the phone and have an idea of the lay of the land.

                        Both.

One of the LEO threads comments were along the lines of it depending on what kind of druggie you run into.

Taser will have no impact on someone on many hallucinogens.
Hit a crackhead with pepper spray and he's going to ask if you can spray some on his tacos.

I hear ya, but what I provided is a team effort level of protection. I would've added a collapsible baton, but I'm not privy to the legality of civilians carrying them.

Let's also face it, If you run into a dude on PCP...gunshots won't stop him. Protecting yourself from the rest of the crackheads is what you're hedging on.

What's your life worth to you OP? You have choices to make. They involve risks no matter what you decide.

                            Best of luck.

Baton/club/billy/sap/slungshot/knuckles are all felonies for civilians.

Freaking crazy... registered handgun is a misdemeanor, but a roll of quarters with some electrical tape wrapped around it is a felony.
