    Trashed Shooting Areas

There are at least three areas near Truckee that get badly trashed by shooters, including both ranges (upper and lower) at Boca and the short range at Hobart Mills. Last Friday I found three other sites full of leftover cases and some trash inside the El Dorado National forest while scouting deer.

About three months ago a young fellow showed up at Boca with four cases of glass bottles for target practice. I let him use my gong and standing frame but as soon as I left, he started blasting the bottles (discovered when I went back the next day).

How do we get the word out to our fellow shooters that using public land as a trash dump is eventually going to get us shut out? I have access to two public ranges in Nevada but they're an hour and a half away and therefore not terribly convenient. For those who have no option other than public land, getting shut out would be kinda problematic.

It's a sad reflection of society. Ad campaigns might help, but who will pay? Same for trash cans

I agree. We just need to educate those we see out shooting. Ask them to please pick up their trash and to not shoot bottles. I always carry extra bags and hand them out to others I see while I am out shooting. I clean up more every time I am out and also try to arrange for clean up days. Shooting on public land is better than an indoor range. There will be those retards that leave trash and make us all look bad.

          Understatement of the year.

Never tell anyone about Public Land to shoot on. ESPECIALLY random dudes asking online.
Unfortunately, some people don't give a crap. You could explain to them all you want and they can see areas get shut down. Doesn't bother them and their couple of junk guns they happened upon.

If they trash the spot they're not shooters, they're just gun owners...real shooters wouldn't do that kind of thing.

As far as enforcement, not sure how you'd control these people. I used to shoot on public land a lot more but shy away from it these days. Just more trouble than it's worth...I don't like the 5-0 rolling up on me. Would rather be at a private range where they don't just show up and start asking questions.

If you're talking about law enforcement, they show up where I shoot all the time because it's where they qualify. the one good thing is that they will periodically bring traffic violators out to pick up trash.

I have participated in many "cleanups" over the years. It disgust me everytime with all of the trash. The people who leave the trash are not sportsman. They are scumbags, period.

Yes...5-0, the fuzz, popo, cops, policia, etc.

I don't hate them, but I wouldn't say I like them. I just don't want to deal with them, if that makes sense.

I live near Sparks and while I've never been shooting near Boca, I take my boys there once in a while to ride their motorcycles. If you ever want to do a shoot and clean up day, shoot me a message.

BLM here does get a little trashed too but nothing like I was used to seeing in CA.

The ongoing and worsening problem is that when something is free it's is never respected or taken care of...the "it's free and it's not "mine" attitude is purvasive.

Additionally, free shooting areas attract the economically challenged shooter who is economically challenged for a reason; a clear lack of respect for themselves, for others (using the range after them) , the environment of the public lands they abuse and a general laziness and irresponsibility that tells you why they are "economically challenged" to begin with.

Why do the irresponsible fifth like to trash a public shooting area? Because they can; the same reason they trash everything else the touch!

If responsible gun owners / shooters want ranges on public lands to remain open, they had better start to "self police" and I suggest the NRA /CRPA step up start a "we tip" hotline to DFS / BML Rangers to report those people while they are still there. Gun owners need to be willing to turn these criminals in and be willing to testify in court if nessisary.

As long as there are no consequences, you can not expect trailer trash filth to be responsible. Again, that is what makes them trailer trash to begin with.

Bring two hefty trash bags with you when you go to the shooting area, one for your own stuff and one for what some a-hole felt was okay to leave behind.
