I shoot BLM near Calico and it can be a mess sometimes. With my shooting gear, I bring trash bags and a rake. I really don’t mind but if you think a lecture will fix things, you are in for disappointment. I clean up so I can shoot w/ a clear conscience. I did my part.

Trashed Shooting Areas

Earlier this year a few times early in the morning around 9 am I saw a van come into several different areas with what I believe were juvenile offenders and they forced to police up all the brass and garbage left behind. I think this is a regular occurrence in that area.Comment

That's a good thing! There should be more programs like this....I don't know who these people are but there are a heck of a lot more of them than us who clean up after ourselves...Maybe they are like meh someone else will come along shortly to clean up and could care less....In my head I would love to use these types as targetsEarlier this year a few times early in the morning around 9 am I saw a van come into several different areas with what I believe were juvenile offenders and they forced to police up all the brass and garbage left behind. Same here. My little shooting spot I go to near my house always has some broken glass and whatnot laying around but for the most part it's not that bad. Definitely worse back in Cali.I live near Sparks and while I've never been shooting near Boca, I take my boys there once in a while to ride their motorcycles. If you ever want to do a shoot and clean up day, shoot me a message.
BLM here does get a little trashed too but nothing like I was used to seeing in CA.
Oh, and I'm down for a shooting/cleanup day at Boca too just let me know.Comment

I think we all still need to lecture everyone you talk to about the importance to clean up after themselves. If we say nothing we do not even have a chance at changing one persons mind. Bring it up in the conversation. Hey nice weather for shooting ehh? Hey what are you shooting? Its hot out you need a cold water? (In front of their kids or others) Hey do you need a garbage bag to clean up when your done? I have extra bags right here. You know if we shooters don't clean up they will shut it down out here. I would like to have a place to bring my kids and grandkids to shoot in the future. Guilt works some times.Comment

This is a very old debate and, much like every time before, we miss the key point - common areas need to have dedicated cleaning staff/volunteers since self-cleaning has never worked.
Take the most uppity opera theater with patrons who wouldn't fart when alone in their front yard because they find it uncouth, remove the janitors for a single day and look at what the bathroom will look like. It's not about being slobs, it's about small things adding up.
I am not aware of a single area where humans (or animals) congregate that is kept clean without someone having the task to keep it clean. City protests, concerts, 4th of July celebrations, theaters, hospitals, university parks, office buildings, etc. You name it, it has to be cleaned.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

I pulled a 40" flat screen from one of my spots. A-hole had the nerve to do it on a private property range. Worse yet, I knew the guy who left it there.
He has since apologized.Comment

This isn't even a matter of that...appropriate / wood targets left behind by filth shooters wouldn't be a problem. The PROBLEM is the MORONS bringing inappropriate "stuff" to shoot at that they would otherwise have thrown out (read TRASH) and leaving it... electronics (TV's/ Computers), Auto parts, glass, ceramics (toilets/sinks), appliances (refrigerators, microwaves), empty beer / soda cans etc... THese people are bringing their GARBAGE out to shoot at, not legitimate, safe targets. This is a very old debate and, much like every time before, we miss the key point - common areas need to have dedicated cleaning staff/volunteers since self-cleaning has never worked.

When someone is seen shooting at items like these on public ranges, authorities / ranges should be notified ASAP. These MORONS need to be issued citations to drive home the stupidity of their actions.
^^^^^^^ This too... and the damage is done by the same MORONS as above.....Last edited by OCEquestrian; 09-26-2017, 12:21 PM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." ----Sen. Barry Goldwater

So YOU support letting people haul their trash to shoot at on public land and leave it without recourse? What does "equestrian" have to do with it?? I understand how this issue is used against US ALL.......clearly your myopic viewpoint has you paling checkers instead of chess in this issue and probably many more...
I suppose you will be one of the outraged hypocrites who will scream bloody murder when the anti gun groups and anti trash DFS/ BLM bureaucrats permanently close the shooting areas... yup you will be all butt hurt and surprised, screaming your 2nd amendment rights are unfairly restricted...
Guess what EVERYONE... with rights come responsibility!

THIS is a great idea. Narc out those P.O.S's before they ruin it for everybody. If responsible gun owners / shooters want ranges on public lands to remain open, they had better start to "self police" and I suggest the NRA /CRPA step up start a "we tip" hotline to DFS / BML Rangers to report those people while they are still there. Gun owners need to be willing to turn these criminals in and be willing to testify in court if nessisary.
