I have gotten access to closed areas simply by offering to BLM to do a cleanup there
BLM will provide bags (I just bring my own) and send a truck out to pick them up. You just have to agree to a date give them a place they can find like a gate or outhouse for the pickup.
They appreciate the work that is done and my friends and I get the area to ourselves.

Sure, but you're still advocating going against the human nature as a fix of a real life problem. Nobody ever succeeded in an effort of that type.

I'm not an apologist, just pointing out that some things simply don't work. Trying to "fix morons" (per your post) is provably futile. The only effective effort has been to clean up shooting spots, whether done by volunteers who resent those who litter, or by professionals (in a loose term) who are simply paid to pick it up.

My bet is on paying low-skill labor to show up with a truck and haul away the trash. Much more effective and much cheaper.

THese people are bringing their GARBAGE out to shoot at, not legitimate, safe targets.

When someone is seen shooting at items like these on public ranges, authorities / ranges should be notified ASAP. These MORONS need to be issued citations to drive home the stupidity of their actions.
Slow your roll dude. I shoot steel and paper but I have no problem with people shooting other things if they clean up after themselves. It is not illegal. And who are you to deem what is appropriate or safe?

"When someone is seen shooting at items like these on public ranges, authorities / ranges should be notified ASAP." You sound like a whiny little b*tch. I grew up in Marin County where it was once the mecca of mountain biking until all the equestrians started moaning and b*tching and lobbying to get all the mountain bikers banned from the trails because they deemed it "unsafe". Trails by the way, that mountainbikers originally built. Do us all a favor and keep that sniveling nanny attitude in your little horse riding world, don't bring it here.

You mean all that "biodegradable fertilizer" .. not unlike what all the dog owning hikers leave on trail and as opposed to the refrigerators, television sets and old computers and brake drums left in public shooting areas? Kinda an apples and oranges discussion but you may be a bit too invested in leaving trash behind or maybe too obtuse to see that the two really are not analogous at all. What is most fun is that it has NOTHING to do with the topic of this thread... which says VOLUMES about your intellect and intent.

This is a real solution that the NRA/ NRA local chapters or ad hoc groups who actually use public lands could make happen....

If responsible gun owners / shooters want ranges on public lands to remain open, they had better start to "self police" and I suggest the NRA /CRPA step up start a "we tip" hotline to DFS / BML Rangers to report those people while they are still there.
I've thought about that. Wood target frames will degrade. Plastic and ceramic won't. Broken glass is a hazard to those who pick up and those who don't think about wearing shoes with the right kind of soles.

Thanks for the suggestions and offers to help with cleanup. I might take you up on them...after hunting season is done.

I'll be part of the solution. I'd be happy to arrange/join in on a local meet-up/clean-up at a few common BLM shooting areas. Central Valley area if anyone sees this and is interested. Shoot me a PM.

We have an NRA Members' Council of Temecula Valley meeting this Thursday and I might bring it up for discussion. Interesting topic and would be a worthy fundraiser.

It's great PR for the group amd shooters in general. It could be similar to then"adopt a highway program" where a group raises money to pay Caltrans to use low level offenders doing community service to clean up roadways ..

Seriously? It's only fertilizer if you take it home with you and put it in your garden. Wilderness areas don't need fertilizer . Every equestrian I've ever had the displeasure of meeting has been a hypocrite!
