I can't recall, but one of the companies making suppressors makes a suppressor look alike complete with their logo, etc. Was it SilencerCo?

Notice the rifle in the picture does not have a detachable magazine or other AW features. Could they be marketing fake cans? Wonder if they make fake cans with no baffles. Wouldn't that be just a muzzle device?

I was with a buddy in the Arizona desert, and he duck taped a new oil filter onto his 38 spc barrel and had his own sound suppresser. Funky, but it did work

Why didn't he just buy the oil can adapter off eBay or something. If he's gonna be illegal about it might as well do it properly lol

I agree about the guerrilla tactics. I don't think it would ever be a straight up battle though. I doubt that the majority of the military would take up arms against the citizens.

The firearm looks like an in-line blackpowder muzzleloading rifle, which would be an "antique firearm" under CA laws.

Under CA "silencer" laws, there are no exemption for "antique firearms".
So, it would be illegal for an "antique firearm" to have a "silencer".

but then again, i don't care about CA laws about firearms that are based in nonsense. i would never report anyone having illegal stuff, i would just be envious of them.
What is shown in the video is CA legal, because FFL/SOT are exempt from CA "silencer" laws [PC 33415(c)].

SilencerCo is a FFL/SOT, so it's CA legal for them to make a "silencer" commerical in CA.

The video makes it seem like SilencerCo is announcing something Maxim product line related this week, and potentially it is related to California.
We know they've been working on the Maxim 9 integrated suppressor pistol:

While I find it extremely unlikely, is it at all plausible that as a complete firearm the Maxim 9 technically escapes the PC definition of a silencer?

17210. As used in Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 33410) of Division 10 of Title 4, "silencer" means any device or attachment of any kind designed, used, or intended for use in silencing, diminishing, or muffling the report of a firearm. The term "silencer" also includes any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling a silencer or fabricating a silencer and any part intended only for use in assembly or fabrication of a silencer. (23689)
I could perhaps entertain that the pistol isn't a device or attachment of any kind, but one would assume the catch-all any combination of parts would suffice. Except perhaps because it is self-referencing the definition of silencer it misses the mark? My point is the PC falls short of specifying any combination of parts ... intended for use in silencing, diminishing, or muffling the report of a firearm. I still find this pretty unbelievable but then again I wouldn't expect SilencerCo to produce a video like that with such strong allusion to entering California.

Guess we'll find out in a few days. It'd sure be swell if CA revisited silencer laws; another example of prohibition that only affects law abiding residents. Criminals can and do easily fashion home made devices, and even suppressed a firearm's report is still abundantly audible - nothing like the Hollywood representation that no doubt clouded lawmaker opinions. But they are extremely utilitarian for target, sports, and home defense shooters to protect their hearing from unrecoverable loss. Really wish our legislators took an honest look at this. There is simply no real evidence to support the idea that silencer bans contribute in any way to public safety, and considerable evidence to suggest the opposite.

Who wouldn't open a bottle of Champagne if SilencerCo LLC somehow showed up on the DOJ roster this week?

The adapter still requires a NFA tax stamp and the nice wait involved.

                        Nonsense? It is NOT nonsense.

There is no reason, as all, for suppressors to be illegal or regulated in this country. Hopefully the Hearing Protection Act and other bills like it will go through nationally and force holdout states to defend thier postition on why they should be regulated. Tennessee just passed their HPA, and it is awesome.

Silencerco's CEO is involved in the committee to deregulate suppressors which is spearheaded by Donald Trump JR..

My understanding is the national hearing protection act has been folded into the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement Act which was heard by a committee in DC last week so hopefully it'll continue to go forward. That won't end Kali's exclusion of suppressors, but FWIW there also is a Kali bill; SB 710 which if I recall correctly would make suppressors legal for hunting in Kali. Might never get through but at least there's some movement, more than there was for many years.
