Even Ray Charles can see that this was an attempted scam.

He wouldn't be the first. A news report several years ago profiled a victim who accepted a cashier's check from a bank for $8,000.00 from a guy who bought his car. The bank employee & his friend did it; the bank employee printed a fake cashier's check. The guy was out the money and the car.

oh god, that FFL is stupid.

please tell us what FFL this was so we can stay away. if they can't even see an obvious scam, who knows what else they don't know/overlook.

As long as he pays first and he understands that you don't send the rifle out until after the check clears the bank.

The safest way is USPS Money Order. These can be verified. http://es-about.usps.com/postal-bull...tml/mo_003.htm

Guy claims to be a LEO, but everyone here says its a scam.

Isn't it "impersonating an officer" even on a deal like this, and shouldn't OP inform whatever LE dept this guy claims to be?

I'm gonna stick to F2F transactions only. Should I be worried about him having my name, address, and phone number?

I checked with KW defense and stockton gun exchange... both of them said it looked fine... [emoji53]

Wait, he wanted to pay you first?

                            How is that bad?

Is the rifle a common firearm?

Seriously, if it is priced well-and I knew it was a common gun-I probably would buy it sight unseen. And I have; Back when dial-up was the source to get online and pics took forever to load.

How many used guns-outside milsurp-are really beaten to hell?

Even on PPTs, when signing paperwork, the FFL covers one party's personal information so that the buyer doesn't know where the seller lives, and vice versa.

                                That's what I would've said....postal money order and I'll ship it when I'm satisfied I'm paid.

The conversation most likely would've ended there....like 99% chance.

You guys who are worried about the OP getting robbed.....would you really go rob a guy who has guns in his house?
