    Suspicious person

I have an ad posted for my precision bolt action rifle. Someone replied and didn't ask for pictures. He said he was Leo from Az and I could drop my rifle off at a FFL and he would pay them to send it to his FFL and mail me a cashiers check first. I gave him my full name, address, and phone number and he hasn't replied yet. Am I just overthinking? Or does it sound sketchy.

What is his goal? To get my personal info? Because I wouldn't drop off the rifle until I had cash in the bank anyways.

This. The goal is to get you to deposit a cashiers check and then have the rifle shipped until about a week or two later when your bank informs you the check was bogus and reverses the funds from your account.
        Google cashiers check scam.

He may be the first person to ever make a fake cashiers check.

Fake checks might look like business or personal checks, cashier’s checks, money orders, or a check delivered electronically.

Fake cashier's checks are a common scam.

Would he be liable for writing a fake check? Because it would be easy to trace it back to whoever is going to try and pick it up from their FFL. Thanks you guys. I'm gonna stick to F2F transactions only. Should I be worried about him having my name, address, and phone number?

                    Scammer.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

6 hours since I sent my info to him. But he first contacted me early this morning at 2:48am. And we had back and forth messages around 7-8 hours ago.

he played his hand when he wanted to buy a rifle and not see any pics. there's plenty of rifles in Az. and he wouldn't need to go through shipping, 2 FFLs, and all that horse shyt.

The only cashiers check-money order you should ever accept is a postal money order.. Take it to the post office and they will validate it and give you cash... Do not deposit it in a bank.. They can be faked too,,, and thats why you take it to the post office... Instantly you will know if its good and walk out with your cash... Banks will not even guarantee their own cashiers checks,,, but will deduct the funds from your account weeks later when they find out its bogus...
Also using a fake postal money order is a felony,, and the FEDS do take that very seriously... Across state lines even more so...
I only accept postal money orders when dealing on gunbroker,,, buying and selling ,,, because the FEDS will get involved either way if things go south..
Never have had a problem with them,, and I can ship the product as soon as cashed..... Win-win...
                            Cheers..

You can and should freeze your credit for protection from identity theft.
Criminals having your personal info isn't good but hopefully this scammer isn't operating anywhere near you. PS: credit freeze is good for everyone, it just locks your credit from being pulled until you unlock it first. Far better than any paid monitoring service, and not really an inconvenience as you can pause the freeze when you actually do need to use credit.
