lots of people like to play policeman while at the range and question others about the legality of their firearms.
I have a number of potentially questionable firearms when I go to the range (eg. 26" FN2000 and 26" Steyr AUG both in .22lr, AR Pistols, featureless Tavor, and featureless AR with FRS-15).
I have never had anyone ask me about the legality of any of them. I have had questions about the FRS-15 and whether I like it or not.
The RSO only cares that you aren't shooting rifle calibers on the pistol range and that everything is being handled safely.
I think if anyone questioned the legality of my weapons I would simply nod and respond "that's interesting" and then go about my business. No reason to waste range time or breathe discussing things with them. Same thing when at gun stores.
The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

Everybody's an expert out there in them there shooting ranges.
I hope this fellow asked for permission before touching your rifle.

At our range we train our RSO in the fact that they are not LEO and it is none of our business what our customers are shooting as long as they don't break our range rules.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

Went to a local indoor shooting range today. I already hate going to indoor or regulated ranges in general, but I needed to sight a rifle in so I thought I'd go since we're still under fire restrictions.

Anyway, as I'm leaving the owner of the range/gun shop starts talking to me about featureless and how my grip isn't a legal option per the opinion of DOJ (it's a magpul grip made into a fin grip which the fin goes up about an inch above the highest exposed portion of the trigger).

He then goes on to say that if you bought a complete rifle before Jan 1, 2017 it has to be registered as an Asalt Weapun because it came with a BB installed and all the features. You were not "allowed" to convert it to featureless because it was brought into ca with a BB and somewhere on the DROS paperwork it says it is compliant with CA and the serial number or sku number or something correlates with it being a BB rifle?

Said the DOJ has told him this over the phone and in person. I've NEVER heard of this before. Has anyone heard of this? I've never purchased a complete rifle, only lowers and assembled them.
If it makes you feel any better, the DOJ told me that that guy's wife is as easy as opening the door to your refrigerator.

The rep was backed up at a poker game in a friends garage.

                Sorry, not sorry.

He said stripped were the only ones purchased before 2017 that were legally able to be featureless. But this guy also had a rifle built with a thordsen stock that still had a BB on it.

all of my firearms are compliant, but the day an RSO questions the compliance of my firearm will be the day i stop going to that range.

if i'm being safe and not bothering anyone, mind your own ****ing business.

I won't be going back. I really don't like public indoor ranges anyway. That was the just the little push to make me not go again. I'll stick to blm and forest land now.

Along with the finned pistol grip do you also need to remove the flash supressor for it to be featureless ?
