    nOOB questions

Why is it that in SoCal I see used guns 15 to 20% less than a new one costs but in NoCal people are actually asking 15 to 20% over what you can buy one from BPS or a LGS..

Round count? Seriously does anyone believe you.. someone posted a rd count for a rifle that was probably 75 years OLDER than they were.. how the hell can you state rd count?

    Just asking....

When you live in such a populated area as SoCal, competition encourages lower prices.
As far as round count..you are right that it is difficult know in many cases. But there are folks who DO keep track. I keep books on all my reloading activity, as well as document my rounds fired through each firearm. I do that for several reasons, only one of which is to be able to tell a buyer how "used" a gun is, in the unlikely event that I decide to sell one.

I think the bottom line is that it is up to the buyer of a used gun to examine it (or have it examined by a pro) and determine the condition, and compare that to what he feels he can affird to pay.

      ....
Why would any one buy a used one for more than they could get from an LGS?

Because in norcal there are more anti. Berkley, San Francisco, so less gun owners less supply.

I have purchased a few used pistols from calgunners and never felt I over paid. Yes probably the same gun wpyld be 100.00 or so less down south.

            Remember....

            90% means pretty worn out.
50 rounds down the pipe means 5000.
Never fired except at manufacturers proofing means 500 rounds.
Custom trigger work means bubba had a go at it.

            Buyer Beware.

Used gen 3 or 4 glocks going for 750 plus when they are 629 new at BPS... or 599 out in Modesto..
Just one sample that comes to mind.

Please, tell me more about how marketplace prices are unfair. Your text is not really an example. They are anecdotal. Try linking to some real examples.

Gen 3 glocks are not going for more than retail unless they are modified. Gen 4 are off roster and will be above retail no matter were in the state you get them. You really are new to this arn't you?.

Firearm market is highly distorted in CA.

There are several forces working against us: roster limits availability of new guns, magazine capacity limit limits it further, then we have 1 in 30 for new handgun purchases, AWB that limits both handguns and rifles, etc.

This creates a perverted dynamics where there is demand for basic guns at elevated prices.

They do sometimes - I've seen people 'splainin that buying over the MSRP still saves on taxes.

Please post an example please. Maybe at retail but I've never seen over retail.

Besides posting a price doesn't mean they ever get what they ask for.

Here is from the first page (as of the time of my reply):

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1372066 - The guy is asking 850 and 700 for USPc and Gen 3 G22, both on roster.

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1374023 - The guy is asking over the MSRP for the same combo from Magnum Research (going rate is quite a bit lower).

Well, there's your problem; you're assumptions are incorrect.

                            USP9c - MSRP 999
                            Gen 4 G23 - Off-Roster
                            G22 FDE - Off Roster

                            DE MkXIX - MSRP $1572
                            DE conversion MSRP $476

High? Yes. Completely out of line? Not really.

That G22 gen3 comes with night sights & a trigger mod. If they are worth $200 is debatable, but there is some justification for the higher price.
