IMPORTANT: new BLM target shooting bans

    [ETA: discovered parallel/similar thread here:
    http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1358160]

Just learned today that BLM in field offices covering 15 Northern CA counties and additional So Cal counties have banned all target shooting for now, and likely will continue to do so through the summer wildfire season, due to the risk of sparking a fire. One report on KCRA (Sacramento) said it's the first time in 40 years BLM has done this in certain counties.

I'm not convinced it will be permanent anytime soon, though you certainly could be right; the stated impetus for this temporary ban is simply the heightened fire risk, especially in light of the large fires already burning in the state as we speak.

There are many other activities likely to start a fire 'under the right conditions'. But they only went after gun owners.

Imperial County is still gtg for shooting if I read/interpreted all that correctly.

You are correct. They figure out ways to ban things they don't like. Its going to be tough to ban guns but it's easy enough to ban shooting do to fire danger. They say fire danger after having one of the wettest winter's in history.
But yet they will not ban lawn mowers which DO start many fires each year.

It will happen. I have seen them outlaw dirt bikes on 90% of blm land in ca.

It will start as temp bans do to temps. Instead of saying things like only when temps are above 100, they will go by calender dates. Those will expand and expand until there is no shooting for the whole year.

            It's just a clever handle

it seems odd to shut down a range that already caught on fire cause its probably as safe now as its ever been

Is Sly park covered by BLM? I thought it was a part of El Dorado National Forest?

Sly park is not BLM. It is national forest. I was there yesterday and will be again Sunday.

We got our first seasonable fire closures here in San Diego County about 4 years ago. Now it's permanent, every summer to December. The reason was "the drought".

Now that the drought is over with 200% of normal rainfall this year the excuse is "excessive burnables" and "overgrowth". See a pattern here?

This has been so successful in stopping outdoor shooting here it's being expanded to Northern California. Now all of you will get to enjoy indoor ranges for the rest of the year. The Carson National forest on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe is also closed, this is not just California.

Imperial County is still open here, all year long. Sand has a hard time catching on fire. 112 degrees does keep the crowds small. Bring sunscreen.

It appears that the only BLM shooting closures for Southern California are western Riverside and San Diego Counties per this document:

                        The other restrictions are:

The possession or use of any steel jacketed, steel core or armor-piercing ammunition of any caliber. This would include handgun, rifle and shotgun ammunition.

The possession or use of any tracer and/or incendiary ammunition of any caliber. (illegal per California law)

The possession or use of any pyrotechnic device not listed under 2-4 above. This includes, but is not limited to, such devices as exploding or chemically reactive targets or items that are detonated when struck by a projectile such as a bullet from a firearm. (no tannerite)

                        Also recommended:
It is recommended that all target shooters carry a fire extinguisher and/or shovel in the event of an unintentional fire start.

Target shooting has been outlawed in most all of the San berdo mountains, Hesperia, Oak glen,Phelan and some others.
Off roading has been and is continually closing all over California especially the Southern parts. Non lead for hunting has expanded hundreds of miles from when it was originally put into place.
Gold mining/dredging has been halted in many areas. They are picking it as much as they can. Odumber took away another crap load of open space for his so called national monuments and the Mojave preserve was to be the one and only..
It's Coming. it's Closing, Freedom is being abolished. Part of the many reason's I left.

Hopefully Trump reverses Obozo's overreach when he created the California National Monuments.

California’s attorney general argued Thursday that President Trump has no legal authority to revoke or modify national monuments created by previous administrations.

I hate how California acts like they respect the proper use of firearms only to turn around and go after ranges and public shooting lands.
