I'd change lanes to get far away from that guy. If he really is waving the thing around, I'd go home. Since you don't know the guy, you don't know how he'll react. He might have the attitude of "hey, I made it through 'Nam alright, you know it all!"

One time I was up at Angeles and the range officer warned me not to hand over a weapon to my partner. He said I had to put it on the table, THEN my buddy could pick up the firearm. Oh, come on! I guess I'm a Burro Canyon type of guy anyway!

I've been in the exact same situation a couple of times, and heres what we did. Arranged it with the guy I was with so we knew what was coming.

I was watching my partner at the firing line, and then when I knew no one could tell I was acting, I went off on him. "STOP, TURN AROUND, DO NOT EVER POINT THAT THING THAT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT TO SHOOT FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!"

At the time, I think those around us got the idea. Does it last? Not sure.

Haha. I like your imagination. Sometimes people are smart enough to take hints though.
          Insert something clever here.

I would immediately walk over and give them a quick range safety 101 class and notify the RSO. If they had attitude or it continued I'd have the RSO boot 'em.

No second chances after they shoot you. I'd rather just be an aZZhole than a dead aZZhole.

If they're like every other counter guy at indoor shooting ranges, they're BSing with someone or to nobody in particular about the time they trained with Delta Force/SAS/DEVGRU/SEAL Team Six/Airborne/Marine Recon, or about their cousin's friend's dad's Viper SRT-10 six point three second quarter mile time at the dragstrip, or about BATFE putting a guy in prison for 10 years for adding a cleaning rod to his SKS, or how FEMA has secret trains hidden inside a mountain tunnel in Wyoming designed to take gun owners away to concentration camps, or some other thing that makes me wish I could turn my ears off selectively.

[QUOTE=Gaucho;2094579]with what looked like 2 daughters in their 20's. \QUOTE]

                    Were they hot?

I would report that to the range officer, then hit on his daughters.

As has been repeated over and over, the safety of you and the people you're responsible for is number one

It's always best to inform a range officer if one's present, because a range officer is responsible for the safety of all shooters and his/her words are more likely to be taken seriously. And that'll also establish a "first offense" so they know to watch the dangerous shooter more closely and possibly expel them from the range if more violations occur.

But if there isn't a range officer present, you need you bring it upon yourself to alert the shooter. If you don't, who will?

However, if you're going to talk to someone about unsafe firearm behavior, there are two things you should keep in mind.

Be polite and courteous, but be firm. You want them to understand that they were being unsafe, and why they were being unsafe, but you don't want to offend them (on their first offense, at least).

And most importantly, wait until they're reloading. If they're being unsafe with a loaded gun, you want to ensure that they're not going to turn around and accidentally shoot you when you tap them on the shoulder.

This has already been covered amply here, but I'll put in my 2 cents. If you don't feel comfortable approaching someone and pointing out his safety violation, by all means report it to the staff/RO but PLEASE don't just ignore something as critical as this. If you do decide to notify the offender yourself, remember that a little politeness goes a long way and there's no reason why you can't impress upon him the seriousness of the situation without being rude or confrontational.

I had an issue at the same range. A couple of gangbangers doing stupid ****. I wrote about it on Yelp and received an email (still have it) from the guy who actually is in charge of the place. I guess he is appointed by the Optimist Club. He suggested that ANY reason that you see on the line to do so you are free and clear to call the "CEASE FIRE". If you scream cease fire they are suppose to sound the buzzer and come out to investigate.

If I saw a guy sweeping the muzzle I am calling a cease fire. No fu****g way am I taking any chances!

Great range but there are some yo-yos shooting there!

This is why i dont go to public ranges, everyone i shot with has an agreement. if we muzzle sweep anyone. a quick slap to the head is acceptable.

I would of had No problem confronting the people, tell them exactly what they did. and if they did it again get the RSO involved. Some people dont realize what they are doing with the muzzle. and they wont notice until people keep pointing it out.

Hey, Pvt. Cowboy, you must shoot at some of the same places I do.

Here's one for you - I walked into an indoor range a while back and as I turned towards the counter, the counter guy was showing two customers something and I was looking straight down the bore that was pointed right at me and the front entrance. I said clearly "Whoa!" raised my hands like in a cowboy movied and slowly backed back out the front door. When I came back in the guy gave a rather feeble apology.

When the front line of safety exhibits this sort of behavior, it can only go downhill from there.
