IMHO, arguing the law with LE is not going to go well.

Yes, it does: Zip tie does not meet the requirement.

I just got a pistol so here's my loadout for going shooting.
My edc bag doubles as range bag since I carry a first aid kit in it along with other stuff.

Small locking nano case w/pistol in it placed into my backpack
      Magazines
      A few boxes of ammo
      Cash for just in case
      Small can of CLP
      Chamber flag
      Multi tool
      Rag
      Folding knife
      Electric ear pro
      Foam in ear plugs
      Eye pro

Rifle stuff goes in my big rifle bag or it all gets condensed into the rifle bag if I'm taking it out as well. I keep a med kit in there too.

        I don't see a gun.
        Are you taking a gun?

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Do this and you won't have to wait to get to a judge to prove you were right. Cops are human and will often take into account whether you made a good faith effort to do the right thing. Attitude matters. I know this because it does to me. I can make a sincere effort to help you or just shrug (I don't work with the general public).

I use a Case Club locked container for my handguns, a separate locked container for ammo and a range bag. The range bag has eyes, ears, tape, mag loaders, chamber flags, etc. I transfer ammo into range bag at the range. I keep ammo and firearm separate during transport. Cops do not know all the laws so why make them question if it is legal. Make it crystal clear that all is legal and there need be no questions. Being right may not be much comfort after the expense of being caught up in the system.

                  1st bag:
                  Pistols
                  Eyes and ear protection
                  Lula
                  targets

                  2nd bag (ammo can):

You unnecessarily overcomplicate a simple matter of transporting guns.

I've never understood the temptation to take loaded magazines to the range. How long does it take to load them? If you have a disability, I get it; otherwise, load them at the range while you're waiting for the cease fire.

"Temptation" sounds like there's something illegal or questionable about transporting loaded mags. Since transporting loaded mags is perfectly legal, I just grab what I've got and go. Loaded=fine. Unloaded=fine. I don't worry about it. It would be pointless to unload mags just to go to the range. Unless you like to do unnecessary work.
