WHAT TO PUT IN RANGE BAG

I was wondering what to put and not to put in the range bag? Could we have loaded mags in the range bag with the gun but not inside the gun? Or do we need to have ammo in a separate bag from the gun.

What do you guys normally put in your range bag?

Also what are the laws for transporting guns and ammo in the car?

All those questions are answered here: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...e=Transporting

Well, except for things like ear protection, eye protection, a first aid kit, tools you might need, targets, a notebook, tape, a stapler ...

i read all that just now.

so basically I am allowed to carry my empty pistols and the loaded mags in the same range bag. but it has to be in the trunk when i am driving. correct?

        Not necessarily.

If your range bag has a locking compartment, and you lock it, the bag with the unloaded gun in the locked compartment is a 'locked container' (you get to decide on whether it is 'secure') and that container may be anyplace in your vehicle you find convenient.

I just have a bag with zippers and different compartments. no locking capability. So what would I do?

Add an extra T shirt....I go to the range at lunch or after work. If you have a collared shirt with a couple of buttons...sure as hell the spent casings will go in...hot brass and Loaded gun is no good...

Plus...usually, the soot from the spent casings leaves black marks if it bounces off the side wall and onto you...

I leave 40 bucks in mine as well for an extra box if I don't have my wallet...or to buy bullets if I am shooting a friends gun...of a different caliber.
Wilson Protector .45, Springer 9mm Loaded, Franchi Instinct SL .12ga. and some other cool stuff for the kiddos...

If the compartment can't be locked, or that doesn't look secure to you, you can
                - carry the bag in your trunk, as 'locked in a trunk' is also acceptable
                - acquire a separate locking case

You can put a padlock through the two holes on the zipper to lock them together, thus having the gun in a locked bag.

I'd recommend a multi tool, extra eye and ear protection. And I'd keep a first aid kit with a tourniquet in your vehicle just in case, especially if shooting in a remote location.

Binoculars, if you shoot 100 yards or more. Kind of nice to see the holes while waiting for the cease fire.

Plastic bag or some container for your empty brass.

Battery back up for your ear pro and red dot sight.

I like to put everything in the range bag, and carry loaders and ammo in a small ammo can. Plus, a sun umbrella, my gun caddy with umbrella stand, a little cooler with drinks and protein bars during competition.

Just take the basics and you'll add to your bag with every range trip trust me....I'm the type who takes way tooooo much stuff but that's the way I do everything I over prepare with work, with camping, vacations....it's just the way I'm wired. Each person is unique and will do things differently you'll figure it out my advice hit the range often and go from there

I usually reserve my range bag for ear/eye protection and pistols stuff. Usual load out in the "range bag" is as follows:
Eyes, ears, pistol ammo, spare parts (AR15 essentials kit), tools (hex wrenches, screwdriver w/ interchangeable bits, vortex torque driver, lube, pistol, pen, sharpie, Maglula loader, pistol mags.

Putting a lock thru the zipper pull tabs is not he best idea. I'd get a bag with zippers designed to be padlocked. Yea, it's really not going to slow anyone down, but law enforcement will feel better about it.
