I don't smoke pot ya knucklehead.

I view its risk/benefit like any other drug, or tool (either tourniquet or LoneStarGrissle) and decide what I think at that point.

For now, no pot, but we will see.

The Marines (wounded warrior batt/pendleton) are allowing active dutymembers to explore MJ use for ptsd.

Swat -t is a great tourniquet but is difficult for self aid. Also ppl with thicker thighs might not be as effective. I carry one in my truck. They're smaller compared to other tourniquets and less expensive.

            That is combat injury.
And they are speaking of life-threatening catastrophic injury - unlikely to see anything of that sort as a passr-by stateside.

One of the main reasons for a properly built TQ is to give those final twists with the rod to cut off the circulation, and then lock into place. If you use your belt, and its a decent gun belt, that sucker isnt gonna twist. Furthermore, you now have an unsecured holster/gun and you are stuck holding a belt as tight as you can (if you are lucky enough to need it for your leg instead of going one handed on the arm) while your hand(s) are possibly covered in your own slick blood. Im curious if any of you that claim the belt is good enough has ever tried out your belt and had someone check for pulse.

Im also going to argue that your typical cables do not have the strength, nor adequate surface area to stop bleeding thats on a level where a TQ is required.

Lets keep the hypothetical use to your own limbs for the purpose of this thread
Well if a belts the only thing that you have isn't it better than nothing? Improvised tourniquets are not as effective but still worth applying.

                      LOL,

Well, if you care to know, that resource is about as good a synopsis of history, use, misuse, risk, benefit, application, removal, and transfer that one will find.

Or we can go round and round here.

I have all the time in the world to discuss, I don't work again until I am healed (TBI, ulnar fx d/t a little argument with my corvette and a dirt field and fence) - but probably won't go back to work until I move to OryGun.

Put a tourniquet on it and you'll heal faster.

                          Lol,
                          Neck tourniquet.

Believe me, I have had my share of pts where this, or a bit of anterior pillow therapy was in order.
                          Still, I resist.

Don't carry a TQ on me as part of my EDC gear. But I do keep medical supplies with a 2 TQ's included in each vehicle(except the motorcycles). I would carry one on me if I could find a realistic way to do so.

The only person on scene was a CHP and he didn't seem to know what to do. The car was rolled over and there was one person inside hanging in a seatbelt. I identified myself with my badge and I had rubber gloves on. I always carry them in the truck. I crawled into the car to see if the person was okay, at that point the person said that they felt woozy and could I please take these. The person tossed me a bag of some sort of Narcotics. I in turn handed those to the police officer. It turned out the person had already had two previous drug-related arrests and this was going to be the third. As a person that had been on seeing as also seeing and handling the evidence I became caught up in the chain of evidence. The entire process was 18 months and four court dates that I had to attend. Unless it's a minivan full of kids, from now on I'm not stopping.
From someone who's been on the side of Highway 4 in Antioch with broken bones and bleeding road rash on both arms, let me be the first to say thank you to people like you. I was hit by a car at the Somersville offramp (before they widened the freeway) when I was on my motorcycle headed home from work. Two men pulled over, asked if they had my permission to administer basic first aid and started doing what they could to help. Sure, it wasn't much. But it was something. It was better than being there by myself watching the cars drive by and the drivers gawk at the blood dripping from my arms all over my pants and the red puddle that was forming around me.

It's unfortunate that attempting to help someone can cause you a headache like it did. But as the saying goes: no good deed goes unpunished.

And to go full circle, no... they didn't apply a TQ to stop any of the bleeding lol.
