    Lol. No words.
That's exactly the type of mentality that anti-gunners use in reference to us carrying guns. And my god, if you're carrying a gun and no medical...well...I could make a pretty good case for that being pretty dumb. You feel it important enough to carry a gun to protect yourself and your loved ones but nothing in case you get shot in the process? Yup, I call that dumb.

        I am a 25+ year (pre-hospital) medical provider,
I can treat someone with compression and my t-shirt or tampon better than just about all of you heroes with your business suit Ifak.

        Call it what you like.
Training goes much farther than a tourniquet or even a pistol will with the untrained.

        I should add,

My reauma kit includes everything from band-aids to thoracotomy kits, to bvm's to king airways. Even a LMA or two, nitrates, Dcylinder of O's, sam splints and so on.
In my pocket, I carry car keys - and maybe a condom, you know - just in case I run into a situation when I need to act quick!

I think the "why" I carry a tourniquet should come with some more details, sort of like the contractor in Afghanistan guy. I read these threads and start to think I am really unprepared, especially on days when I forget to run my cell phone in my EDC kit of socks, sandles, underwear, wallet.

If you do have a tourniquet, what other wound prevention equipment is in your EDC load out? Do you also have over-watch from the office to starbucks? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank you CouchOperator for this thread as I now completely own the spelling of the word tourniquet which completes my daily goal of learn something new everyday.

                  LOl,

The odds of a tourniquet being the one thing that saves 'em are so infantessimal I don't even know where to begin.

Other than blast injuries/extremity avulsions I can count the amount of times I have placed a tq and sharpied someone's forehead on one hand.

                  So that.

How many years have you run the streets in a box or flew scene calls?

I am already applying arterial compression (you wouldn't know where), and I instruct you to continue while I drop a Couple large bores and pressure bags.

Being a Dialysis patient I have an arterial access which is very close to the skin in my left bicep...if I were to suffer a cut I could bleed out

Other medical yes...aluminum torpedo hanging from belt with important meds

Not a bad idea for you with that a/v fistula.

However, depending on the day, you may need to drop a liter or two anyway haha!

What kind of medical professional laughs at people for taking safety precautions?

                          Sometimes I question your judgement.

What I care about is that you still have that one hand to count with

and that someone will happen upon an incident with a TQ for the person that just lost it...

Slippery slope. I can't fit a complete EMT truck on my belt. So I choose to carry only the most important first aid tool. I knife. Anything else I will improvise. Belt will work fine long enough to get to something better, shoelaces too. Not likely to be worried about holding up my pants in that situation either. Fortunately I still have an a** so the belt secures my firearm not my pants.

If I'm the only trained person there and my personal injuries are such that they require a tourniquet my odds of survival are already pretty low.
