          Eh maybe.

Still, as I spinal injury patient, I learned to acquire crooked-smile humor.
For what it is worth, all joking aside - dialysis must be trying - hoping you are on a list and something good comes your way soon.
My son is an organ donor and was able to help with 6 of his organs when he passed.
We have heard from the woman who received his heart and one of his kidneys. We are going to meet up on her and his connected birthday and new life togethe - we can't wait!
I too am an organ recipient (connective tissues) and without which I wouldn't be able to walk - forever grateful.

Best, and apologies about the joke. Funny tho. I am sure most of my renal pts would get the humor - which is why I risked layin' it out there.

            Okay big guy-

What are your indications, risks and implications of placement of a tourniquet?
Placement procedure? How tight? How long? Documentation needs?

            Like I said.

                  Safety precautions?

How about you put your phone down when you drive?

Put the cheeseburger, or cigarette, or chew (i know you like your dip, grizzles).

                  Don't tailgate.

These will save far more lives than a cape and a tourniquet will.
A lone tourniquet in your pocket is just silly - reminds me of a new medic that used to run around (and f around with) his own personal dandy belt oximiter, as if the one on my monitor/defib wasn't satisfactory.
Of course when thing went sideways his eyes would bug out and he would freeze up - more useless than a box of rocks.

Or, gawd forbid, I have 6 bleeders, but only 3 tourniquets ??? What then boss ???

How can you argue on here everyday that MJ has medical uses, and serves a purpose, and at the same time argue that tourniquets have no medical use for the average person

It certainly has a use (both tq's and mj's),

That said, the hype over a tq in your pocket is pretty ridiculous unless at risk for severe extremity injury (e.g., explosions, motorcycle accidents, and so on).
There are so many other items that would take precedence in your pocket

                          cell phone - 911
                          palm mask for rescue breathing
                          CPR training
                          BLS or EMT Class
                          Basic bandages or blankets.

Any and all are far more regularly put to use than a tourniquet.

I bet if we took a poll of all providers here we would have less than 10 total non-combat uses and that would be including all providers here, for their entire career.
Given that is the case - what are the odds you, Joe Suit, will put it to use, and even less likely, will it be needed? Or put on right?

                          Not likely,
                          Not likely at all.

Tourniquets are an effective means of arresting life‐threatening external haemorrhage from limb injury. Their use has not previously been accepted practice for pre‐hospital civilian trauma care because of significant concerns regarding the potential ...

                                i carry nothing medical.

don't know how to use it, nor have any ideas of how i would use them for.

i can apply pressure and a bandage but that is it. maybe check for a pulse, but wouldn't know what to do with the info.

plus i am very fainty around blood. can't stand to be around any amount more than a tablespoon of it or the smell/sight will just knock me out.

only reason i even built up tolerance to seeing blood was due to teenage years of pimple popping and the occasional nose bleeds i get due to dry nasal passages + blowing nose too hard.

i would be the last person you want to help in stopping any kind of bloody wound as i would just faint next to you or onto you.
