Brownells Refusing To Ship My Glock Purchase

Hi-First time posting and new member. I purchased a brand new Glock 19 G3 from the Brownells website a few days ago. I used a promo code and the total price came out to $459 shipped. However, the gun includes (2) 15 round magazines. I called Brownells customer service and asked if they can swap those magazines out for 10 round magazines. The lady got back to me and said they cannot ship the gun because they have no way of contacting the shipping department and telling them to take the 15 round magazines out of the package.

From my understanding, if a gun is shipped to a CA FFL with any magazines over 10 rounds, the FFL will keep it.

My questiono I have an enforceable Contract with Brownells, since there wasn't a disclaimer stating the company cannot ship this item to CA?

Call your receiving FFL and see if they have a High Capacity Mag permit and if they will block the mags.

Probably not. Brownells sells the gun as a package. If California does not allow the contents of the package, California is to blame. Sue them.

No. Under California law, it would be illegal for Brownells to sell and/or ship 15-round magazines to you. Since the performance of your agreement on their part would be illegal, that makes it an illegal agreement. Illegal agreements are not enforceable.

So you knowingly purchased a glock sku from their website that contains standard capacity magazines? I would hope the FFL you're transferring it too isn't charging you a transfer fee because most FFL's in CA have glocks for $499 with tax and DROS.

...and some FFL's won't accept the package or will send it back. I've had Rifle Gear Texas send me Glocks after removing the mags, but that was a great deal and cheaper than the CA version of the gun even taking into account the mags worth probably $25 each. Your G19 sells around here for $499 with two $25 mags, so you are losing out on $50 in mags and paying a dealer fee, I assume. Mine charges $30 if I buy something from the internets. So if I bought a $459 Glock it'd really be $540 plus tax and DROS picking up two mags and dealer fee. I coulda just bought it from my LGS stock for $499+tax+DROS, or had my LGS order it.

If you know an FFL that does not charge a transfer fee, please let us all know!

                  OP:
Cancel the order and buy local.
After fees, the few bucks you might save are not worth the headache.

                      OP:

I assume this is the ad?

Shop semi-auto handguns (359) at Brownells, featuring top calibers like 9mm, .45 ACP, .22 Long Rifle, 380 ACP, & more for self-defense, home defense, and hunting.

There is a spot where you are asked if they can ship it to you and it says "NO" to my zip.

I say you do not have a contract since you did not look up their warning to find out you could not have it.

Do you realize how big Brownells is? They simply cannot rummage around inside packages to custom configure items for California customers. A robot grabs it off the shelf, a human packs it in the box, and that's that. If the SKU is not California legal, they can't ship it to California.

And why not buy local anyway, as Garv suggested?

This. Doesn't matter what the "gun" is, if the sku isn't on the roster, you cant have it (unless you have an exemption).

Dumb move OP. Hope you learned something.

If you have a good FFL this is no problem, at all.

A good FFL will either block the mags for a small fee or just keep the mags and you will have to buy replacement mags. Be sure your FFL has a hi cap permit.

Of course having to buy replacement mags at minimum $40 for two, means you do not have any kind of deal at all. You do realize that you STILL HAVE TO PAY SALES TAX on this gun? And now you have a FFL transfer fee anywhere from $25 - $100, plus the $25 DROS fee?

This is not a deal - you are going to end up paying MORE for this Glock than you would have if you had simply walked into a local gun store who sells them for $499. Even if the mags were not an issue, this is not a deal, it will be a wash at best.

And this is not on Brownells at all. Brownells is like Amazon, they are not small time. Call Amazon and ask if they can remove a spoon from a table setting after you place the order on their website
