    Which to get...

I'm debating a new gun and I'm torn between two.
This did not start as a serious purchase with a goal or objective or anything like home defense, competition, etc. Just something silly to have fun with but then I saw another one that drew my attention that would have value beyond just silly fun.

The two contestants are a basic Maverick 88 and then install a Shockwave Raptor grip on it.
Totally impractical, silly yet most likely fun to play with.
Or a Ruger SP101 3" .357. Damned if I know why but I just really like the look and balance of the 3" SP101.

I've got Mossberg and Franchi shotguns so the 88 wouldn't fill a niche and I've got medium frame 3" revolvers and a S&W Model 60 so the SP101 really doesn't fill a niche either.

The Maverick and grip would run around $250-$300 which I have in cash from selling an upper, the SP101 is around $600-$650 so I'd have to add money to my cash fund.

One would be impractical silly inexpensive fun the other would be rather practical for defense and teaching new shooters and looks awesome with wood grips but costs double....

Do the Calgunner way and get both. And don't sell the upper too.

Do a gofundme here and get the Ruger.

To be fair though, I just picked up my first shotgun yesterday.
      (Mossberg 500A).
Goes to the range next week after I install a Limbsaver pad and clean it up.

I used to have a Maverick 88 with that exact grip. It's very slick and will need tape on it for sure, unless you don't mind it flying out of your hands...Or so I've heard. Lol

Since it's just supposed to be a fun gun and you have a revolver in similar size and trim to the SP101, I say get your Shockwave equipped shotgun and go have some fun!

(The above opinion is completely biased due to my current plan to retrieve an old Mossberg 500A shotgun I left with my father over on the Right Coast next month during my cross country drive and equipping it with a Shockwave Raptor grip.)

I'll vote for the one that helps you get new shooters into the sport. SP101.

One sounds painful after a few rounds the other sounds like a nice fit and comfortable to shoot

Easy decision. One is junk and the other a well crafted firearm. Need I say more?

I'd get the SP101. Much sound and fury!

Id say the sp101, but didnt you just sell a revolver because you said you won it and you didnt have much use for it?
Or was that another pistol..? I cant remember.

Maverick 88. I bought one and modded it out just because it was so damn cheap. Or get both

You guys suck. Are you kidding! Every single post where someone says, "Which should I buy, 1,000 dudes say, "both.""

I say, not the Ruger. Get the more ridiculous one and have some fun dang-it. Heck, get that 12GA shotgun the terminator shot from the motorcycle in the movies and have some real fun. Get a motorcycle and a 12 gauge and post some pictures of you shooting propane tanks as you drive by on your motorcycle.

I love "fun" guns. Practical guns lose our interest over time.

I have the Maverick 88. Cost effective, reliable and durable. It is my go to.
