    Ar500 gongs

Any lead on cheaper targets? So far $60 for a 12in gong

Interested as well. Its the hanger systems that last boyscout rigged up from home depot that normally cost the most. Normally sourcing from a local fabricator will save you the insane shipping prices of the plates

Industrial Metal Supply mfgs and sells ar500 targets. I am puuting together a 22 rifle small bore pistol ar500 targets area at our private range in Lancaster looking for silhouette and gong targets. Something like Oaktree.

Seems expensive for a flat piece of metal. $60+ for a 12" diameter piece at Amazon. And Laser cut? That's more expensive than water jet...

          I'll look around...

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Some people are just incapable of understanding the simplest of things.

I got some quality steel from GASteel.llc from eBay. They manufacture it in TX.

                        How thick? 1/4? no.
3/8? you'll beat it up with the mild steel core and ruin it for closer handgun shoots if that matters. Move it out.
                        1/2? yeah shoot it
let her swing also and hang it slanted as probably will be in the instructions.....

I also use milder steel railroad tie plates.
keep in mind when I did shoot those with the mosin surplus at 100yds ..... the jacket of the bullet would at times come all the way back to the firing line.
Probably not real dangerous but un-nerving to some as you can often hear it coming.

I just edited my post as I had my math backwards.
3/8 with surplus mosin ammo I would not.
I also use mine for close pistol shooting and that is why.
If you don't use them for close pistol and don't mind dinging it up then go ahead ... but personally I'd move them out at 150 at least...200yds better yet.
Stuff ain't cheap and I not really looking to ruin mine and not really meant for steel core.
Or try the non steel core commercial loads
