City of Chandler, AZ has this too. The security company is still going to contact local PD. The only thing is you get more chances for false alarms before you get the bill with a permitted system rather than a non-permitted system. Permit isn't really the right word; it's more like a certificate.

Cities can use a false alarm ordinance instead of a permit requirement in order to address false alarms. Again I don't like permit requirements when not necessary. Unfortunately bureaucracies have become so accoustomed to a permit for this or that, it happens without people really "thinking" about it before it becomes law.

Being from eastern Washington and still owning the family farm there, sure enough, spokane requires a permit, both residential and commercial alarms. At least according to google . And spokane is still relatively conservative in my opinion. So California is not alone.

I don't like the question about firearms in the home being on the application for one major reason in California. The application is subject to public records requests. It's up to the city clerk what information is redacted before providing copies to anyone. Typically the address is not redacted. Therefore..... I won't say more on that issue.

Strange as it may sound, my priority for our alarm system is actually for when my family is home asleep. Ie home invasion. Wife, 4 daughters, all asleep. Door breaks, window breaks, glass breaks, and smoke detectors. And aWalther P99 within an arms reach at all times. And a really really really loud siren inside and out. Insurance will pay for theft when we aren't home.

Only one false alarm in 23 years. Wife put out the candles on her way to work one day. Ceiling fans were off. Candle smoke set off the Smoke detectors. Fire dept showed up about 30 seconds behind me (work less than 5 miles from home).

Man that fireman really really wanted to walk through my house even though I told him what it was. I knew what he was doing. Told him fine, go ahead. Yep he said, candles. Have a nice day and thank you I said.

What a joke our "free" country has become.

Yup. Cost for this privilege in Oakland is $25 per year.

You have a severe reading comprehension issue, even with things you write. I'd suggest some schooling, since whatever you've already been to was an obvious failure.

Thanks for the well thought out post. I agree, cities should enact an ordinance that imposes a service fee on residents who have alarms that are false, and leave the rest of the citizens alone.

As far as informing a government entity that you own firearms. I can think of a number of ways on how that could result in an over reaction to a call to residence that has firearms, where it actually increases the level of risk for the resident and an intrusion of your Fourth Amendment rights.
