    Best training available

    Hi

I'm looking around my lgs and seeing tons of training available. This leads me to ask what was the best training you guys ever took? If it's for beginners or expert, I'd like to know what areas of training did you enjoy the most or got the best experience from? NorCal sessions preferred but speak your mind.

There were different classes available from the beginners class to bolt action training and even IDPA intro courses. They may all have merit but are they all worth taking?

You've already noticed the first problem with your original question: they are vastly different types of classes.

If you need fundamentals, well, you have to take a fundamentals class. If you need bolt action rifle shooting, then you can take a bolt action class.

The value of each class will depend on both the instructor teaching it and what you're trying to get out of it. So, the answer is *some* classes are definitely worth taking.

At what level do you shoot currently? What is it that you need to learn or improve?
That's why the question "what for".

That's what he's asking. He's asking about the best quality training, regardless of type or level.

There is quality training, sure. But are you willing to pay it?

Students will follow good instructors to any range any day of the week.

Entice students with free this & free that, hotels and other non-shooter related kiss your butt activities is bad news. Blue-plate-pancake, with a slice of ham at no extra charge, for your senior special breakfast isn't going to help your shooting.

"Oh, I don't want to go during the week, I don't want to travel, woe is me, does the hotel have a pool" = activities that cost lots of money and have nothing to do with shooting improvement.

Best training, hands down, is here.

I've been on some great guided hunts and have received excellent hunting skills training from all of the guides except for one. While my game success on guided hunts is 40 to 50 percent at best, the great training is probably 90%+ and it comes with the hunt. Everything from shooting skills to tracking have been taught.

Prior to that, I got a ton of great skills from my dad, a former hunter and Marine, my youth NRA Hunter Safety Instructor, and a brother that is now a former Marine and LEO.

This is the right way and the hard way. Or, you can just buy a Glock19, one of those Kydex holsters and go straight Navy Seal. That has been the California trend lately.

For a private citizen? Gunsite -- the school Jeff Cooper built.
