Did I remember the Grendel ammo? How about the cleaning kit?

This is why I prepare a BLM rifle outing the day before, it's too far to drive to forget anything.

thats the best way, plan a day ahead, and get everything in order, having a plan for the days activities saves time

I do the same for other trips / travels / etc

I hear ya there... it's one thing to get to the range 15 minutes from my house and realize I forgot magazines, and another thing to discover it after I drove 2 hours to my BLM shooting spot.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

That's why I have a "shooting to do" list. I check off each item as it is packed and place each bag in the middle of the garage and check the bags off as well when that is done.

Planning for a trip to the range is just a matter of getting everything together and in the car.

Bugging out is pretty straightforward. I keep a bag in my safe big enough to hold all of my pistols and lots of ammo, and my long guns would simply get tossed in the trunk (assuming I was driving out). I would be ok to leave the long guns behind in a pinch, as long as I can get enough ammo for my pistols. I've never timed it, but I suspect I could have most of what I want in the bag and ready to bug out in less than 10 min.

That's the problem with having 12 different pistol calibers and 10 different rifle calibers (not to mention shotgun and BP).... A lot of thought has to go into what and how much ammo to bring.

Bug out is a little easier - grab lots of 9mm, and .223 and out the door!

I have that same problem for bugging out though

So many different guns I'd want to bug out with. I'm still not even sure which ones I'd grab. How do you decide between a high-power pistol or a 9mm, an AR or a 22lr, and I can't possibly just leave the shotgun at home! So I'd end up grabbing like 2 pistols and 3 long guns and 5 different kinds of ammo. And then I wouldn't have room for food or water

I guess if push came to shove, I would grab the Benelli M4 and the Glock 29. No wait, the AR and the Beretta. No wait....

I'd probably just end up "bugging in" because I'd never be able to make up my mind.

this is why i consolidated by ammo calibers to just the most common. i only have 5 to choose from and and 2 of those are 9mm and 223 so those two get priority since they cover nearly anything one would need in suburban/urban situations.

but realistically. i would not be bugging out unless my house is rubble. my house is actually the main meet point of my close friends that live near me. it is defensible with minimal overwatch, and i have vegetables/fruits plants growing.

I'm in Costa Mesa/Huntington Beach area, so there is no bug out plan, unless I had a boat, which I don't.
Takes ~30-40 min to get the gear ready for outdoor rifle time vs ~ 15-20 min for indoor handgun time....as long as I put things back where they were suppose to go after the last range trip or cleaning/project work.

sure you do, you think all those boats in the harbor would disappear during an event that requires a bug out? bet many of the owners of those boats would be either dead or can't make it to their boats.

just go and grab one that can hold your stuff and get out towards the islands off CA.

Unless you're at Dana Point harbor you're not bugging out from a harbor. Both Newport and Huntington harbors will take you at least 45 minutes to get from the dock to the harbor entrance. At Huntington harbor the Navy will most likely shut down the harbor. You won't make it past P.C.H.

Once heard some guys talking about breaking the locks and using the river beds, but I'm sure local PD, etc would have dibs on those.

That is a lot of mobilization for a shtf scenario. If the navy had that much time to block the harbor and knew to do it, presumably things would have been steadily getting worse and you would be much more ready to leave by the time it became necessary, or would have already left.
