Ruger Revolver.....Maybe Not

Friend of mine who lives in AZ was out with a buddy shooting in the desert yesterday. His friend, who was doing double taps had the cylinder blow off. My friend commented that he saw two holes into the target when it happened. That's all I know, other than the picture. Both aren't rookies with guns either.

First of all, I didn't hear you mention injuries, and if that's because everyone is whole, I'm very glad for your friends.

Second, yeah...wtf?!!

That a SP101, right? I had one of those. it was a TANK. Uber-reliable, so I'm completely floored that a revolver, and a Ruger revolver at that had that kind of issue.

Is it possible for a double charge to ignite the primer of the round next to it with pure concussion? I'm thinking that because of the missing cylinder, but also the bent/deformed top-strap.

I see that the top of the frame window is bent up.

Looks to be either an overcharge or a squib in front of another round.

I guess that it really doesn't matter much at this point.

Anybody get hurt?

Glad no one was hurt. It wouldn't be the first time that a factory handgun round was overcharged. I would be contacting the ammo manufacturer.

Any pics of the cylinder? I might question the ammo as much as the gun, even if it was box ammo.

By "Box Ammo" do you mean factory ammo? Some reloads come in a box. Most likely a double or triple powder charge. It's pretty hard to destroy a Ruger.

No necessarily on the squib. Had a new shooter using my 627 with factory ammo. Got a squib and before I could stop him pulled the trigger again. The result was 2 holes in the target and a slight barrel bulge about 1/2 way down the barrel.

BTW - the manufacturer covered the cost of the barrel replacement.
