    Edit...

So there are a few laws. Effective Jan 1 2018 is the requirement for all ammo purchases to be done in person. This means you have to ship any online ammo to an FFL.

There are two laws that are competing that take effect come July 2019. These two laws require background checks for ammo.

The 1st law requires a DROS check with every ammo purchase at the cost of as much as $1. This was past by the state legislature.

The other law which was a ballot measure requires a permit for ammo purchases at the cost of $50. The permit is good for 4 years.

What I read is that one of these two laws will likely be squashed. Which one is yet to be decided by the courts.

IMO, none of them will have the intended outcome is that is to keep criminals from owning guns and buying ammo.

All this does is makes it more expensive for people like me to buy ammo. It's just another ****ing tax to fund more bull****.

whats funny is that in both laws, no provisions were made to add budget to add checkpoints to the borders of CA to other states, so one can easily just drive in the ammo if one decided to.

I disagree. They will have the intended outcome. Because the "intended outcome" was never to keep criminals from owning guns or buying ammo.

If this law ever gets put into use, Yuma is just 2 1/2 hours away. Besides fruit and firecrackers, ammo will be imported via the interstate highway system.

California is gonna need Trump to build them a wall.

I think a lot of those out of state retailers are going to start shutting down sales to Cali before the end of the year. And I wouldn't underestimate the impact of a million buyers on the U.S. market. But you might be right.

there won't be 1 million buyers of ammo in CA.

i know just as many gun owners that don't care about the ammo restriction laws as much as gun owners that do and are stocking up.

even if there is 1 million gun owners in CA, based upon my personal circle only 50% will be stocking up and ordering online. the other 50% will deal with the increased local prices as they don't want to store large amounts of ammo at their home.

ive been stackin deep for almost five years now. without checkin my books i think ive invested over 20 grand in ammo in that time. i for one dont plan on buying an ammo card. as of last week i am done with buying 22 ammo as i have enough for 100 lifetimes, lol. just remember its only gonna get worse for gun stuff in california and the dems are gonna go all out to get back in the white house and rule the federal legislature four years from now. and some of my stuff is of course in case of shtf.

Gavin Newscum is the reason for the record sales of ammo to California.

"Ammo salesman of the year"? Ought to be his campaign slogan.

I'm hoping to have enough of each caliber to last 7-10 years. Rookie, I know.

                        Semi related question here.

Is there any theory out there for buying multiple loads within the same caliber? I.E., 115, 124 & grain loads of 9mm?

Estimating SD ammo is no problem, just wondering if there's been any discussion along these lines?

^ Don't know what you mean by theory but I buy 9mm in 124 and 115. I prefer 124 but whatever is cheapest.

I also reload using different weights. .223 in 55 grains, 62, 68, and 75. Same situation with .308.

'Theory', may be a too technical a term for the question. Just interested in if peeps are buying all different loads or just loading up on their preferred cartridge.

I cut back on calibers and guns awhile back for financial reasons. Three
types of ammo 22LR,45ACP,and 556mm. Still covers a lot of guns

I don't want to say how much I've bought in the last few months but my UPS dude told me I've given him a hernia.
