Now this woulda been a great f'ing idea!

A privately owned small-arms manufacturer, NIOA, will be producing Colt in Australia.
Here's the story from Australian Defense magazine:

Another victory for neoliberal economics and a sad day for the US.
Winchesters are made in Japan and Colts will be manufactured in Australia.

Is it really a neoliberal economics issue though? Or is it that after the company has been mis-managed for decades, we're "lucky" that the Colt name still even exists at all?

The most recent thing Colt has been producing in any serious capacity, was Colt Canada locally manufacturing Tikka rifles (the C-14 or C-19 ranger rifle or something like that), which was just a licensing deal from Sako because they couldn't come up with their own bolt action design. Don't get me wrong, I love my Tikka, and the Colt Canada rifles look alright. But how in the world can a company like Colt be so lame that they have to effectively outsource their engineering?

In what other industry can a company that is constantly in the red for years, have 30 other competitors all in the black churning out products, and just get away with not doing anything for 3 decades? That has pretty much only managed to stay afloat due to ONE government contract which constantly has other bidders willing to undercut them by 20-40% without needing that contract to actually stay solvent?

Imagine if Ford quit making consumer vehicles after the pinto, and relied solely on the sales of crown vics. They'd be a laughing stock.

It happens quite a bit. Just look at Remington's recent attempt at handguns with R51...

While the R51 was certainly a turd, Remington as a whole doesn't appear to rely on a single government contract to stay afloat and either produces products that are in demand or at least attempts to come up with new products. One turd from Remington(really, just about any company can have a screwup here and there) is not comparable to the repeated screwups from Colt.

              Both.
Banks were also mismanaged. They got a bail-out. And Colt will be manufactured overseas. Our own heritage will be made somewhere else and sold back to us at the expense of US workers. Truly sucks.

Yeah, out "heritage" of "crappy company that hasn't come up with an innovative product in decades and arguably hasn't done diddly **** for the firearms industry since maybe the 1960's or earlier"

Colt is simply a name brand that is attached to a company. It's not our heritage anymore than Pacific Bell is. Sam Colt himself is long dead, and the company isn't some long lost uncle of ours.

edit: Oh, I almost forgot that Colt ACR abortion of a rifle with it's duplex bullet nonsense.

The snake guns were introduced in the 50's with the rest really just being minor revisions. The Delta Elite is really just a 1911 in 10mm. The Mustang is just a shrunken 1911 in .380. They didn't even invent the M16, just wound up as the manufacturers for it. Haven't completed a successful new semiauto pistol since 1911.

Yeah, they've really done **** all since the 1950s and 60s.

As for the rest yeah, I don't think so. I've owned many a Colts, currently just a M45a1. Not one of them came close to the build quality of a Ed Brown, own a couple of those. While I don't have a DW for comparison, I'd doubt it also.
You need to check out the RGZ

No striker fired polymer pistol in 2017? On average over 13 million people watch your already legendary revolver kill zombies on tv. Do you bring it back? Nah, I think we'll make another overpiced AR and a limited editon John Wayne Series 80 1911. Seriously how low effort can you get?

It's sad to see a legendary US company fail, but their isn't another company that deserves it as much as Colt imho.
HOW IN Z FUQ did they not start a whole new line of pythons after the "Walking Dead"? I mean you could have been a freaking sponsor and have EVERYONE with a Colt but noooooo, they had to go poop the bed and sell a small King Cobra. I mean they need to go sit at the feet of Ruger and learn how to rebuild. Then move to Sig to learn how to stay fresh. They are dying from self inflicted wounds.

The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

lol, I didn't even realize TWD had pythons in it(apparently since season 1 back in 2010 according to IMFDB, I don't watch that show). 7 years later and they still haven't bothered to get an equivalent into production to basically print money at $1500+ a pop? Yeah, that's a whole lot of fail. Could you imagine if S&W discontinued the 29 right after Dirty Harry hit theaters?
