    Colt remains troubled

    Colt layoffs unfolding.

What is happening at Colt? That’s the question on many people’s minds as news of layoffs in the company began to trickle out starting on Tuesday.Rumors of massive layoffs at Colt began with a post at Pistol-Forum by member “misanthropist”, who wrote:Sounds like a big mess down there and a whole lot of pink slips, including my favourite division, the custom shop. The extent of the layoffs are not yet known, but it has been confirmed that Brent Turchi, director of Colt Customer Service and the Colt Custom Shop, was let go.

    Colt remains troubled

This is sad to read. I know I love my LE6920. I wish I could pick up a nice Colt 1911, the Delta Elite looks sweet, but with our stupid roster, prices are too high...
I'm thinking Colt would be a great poster child for being revitalized during the new POTUS' term, but I have no idea how they could be fixed...

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

        Management has been terrible.

When everyone in the country was buying ARs they had none. When single shot was blowing up in CA they had no pistols. When AR sales were at the absolute bottom they had thousands in stock. They have always been behind the curve in the last 10 years.

They need to just close shop or re-vamp their civilian line up. The last NIB 6920 I saw looked like crap.

I just got a new Combat Commander and I'm glad I did. I keep reading others replies that Colt has crapped out on fit and finish. 100% not true on the gun I got or the 7 that I handled in the store.

Start selling what people want when they want it.

Years ago I had a standing order for Delta Elite that never happened, so I cancelled it after a year. Then I tried to get an SSA and there were none in stock. When I looked for a Colt AR locally, the only one they had was one made by a different company and branded by Colt.

Where are the new Pythons that are making a killing on the secondary market? Where are the counterparts of J-frames? Even Kimber is making a revolver and Nighthawk is partnered with Korth. Where are the new materials for frames and cylinders? Interesting sights options? Big bore super magnums? Small carry semi-autos similar to Kimber Solo?

How about lever action rifles? Bolt action rifles? AR pistols? Polymer strikers (HK did it a few years back and Beretta just recently)?

These are just quick deficiencies from the top of my head. Imagine what an executive with half a brain could do to get Colt started. Instead, they are trying to be LEO/Military only and screw the "little people."

Colt is run by complete idiots. Look at the new A1 repros they're putting out for an insane price while Troy (love them or hate them) is doing it for a fraction of the price. Even Brownells now is cashing in on the booming repro market with affordable parts.

Meh, I wish they would die off already. Tired of hearing about their woes and such.

This or something similar happens to Colt every few years.

They restructure their debt every few years...but fail to change how they fundamentally operate. Enough, already - stick a fork in 'em.

I really want a colt SA revolver in 22lr with the case hardened finish. Those are fun and look cool.

                            This!

If the greatest gun sales in the history of the United States could not put the company back on track. Nothing can save them.

Colt's pattern of failure for the past 30 years is honestly kind of comical, and miraculous that they haven't simply fallen apart entirely already.

Re-engineered the AA2000 pistol to be a POS before getting it to retail, haven't come up with a new semiauto pistol since.

Their OHWS submission was an absolute joke.

Their "competition" ARs weren't even made in house, and neither were their "collector replicas"(which apparently weren't even the right color).

Haven't been able to come up with anything that could be called a modern service pistol in over 30 years.

Their M2012 bolt action rifles were just all off the shelf hardware possibly not even assembled in-house, in a crowded market sold by a company not known for precision rifles, as a high priced precision rifle.

Their .22lr rifles are just re-branded walthers.

Their snake revolvers have had pretty high demand from a possibly vocal minority for 10 years, did absolutely nothing with regards to marketing that they were even still available from the custom shop before they completely quit production, and refused to come up with anything actually new in terms of their revolver line up and simply abandoned it(only to just now try and bring back the Cobra).

Can't get AR-15s out the door and has to declare bankruptcy after the biggest civilian gun buying spree in the past 100 years(possibly ever) for no discernable reason(at least HK has the excuse of interference from the German government regarding their ability to basically print money by producing older designs in high demand).

When they finally do have a surplus of inventory, it's overpriced.

Wants to rely on their 901 rifle platform instead of anything actually accepted on the market as far as ARs in .308 go.

Gets undercut on their contracts by FN for what, 50% off? JFC, and of course they had no other military contracts unlike say.. FN that produces a wide variety of arms instead of just relying on one contract alone to prop up the entire business.

Colt shouldn't have survived past the early 90s.
