Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

My glock 29 shoots beautifully. To be honest not much more recoil than my .45. What's your purpose OP? I use mine as a hunting sidearms. Much lighter than a big bore revolver and holds 10 rounds.

Get a 45 acp the 10 mm is a specialty caliber. Want something else get a 40 s&w.

Lots of folks who've never shot 10mm with opinions... Anyway, 45 will be much cheaper, unless you reload. For SD, bigger is better, so 45 wins again. For target or hunting, 10mm has the advantage with greater velocity and better ballistics, with 180gr bullets at 1200fps. Shooting 10mm requires a bit more care with the gun; Replacing springs every 1000 rounds and using shok-bufs (and replacing them every 200 rounds) to minimize frame battering.

                  +1 for both

.45 ACP has fun to read stories, which make me laugh!

I have never had the chance to read anything from 10mm.

45acp isnt even as good as 9mm, what makes you think it would be better than 10mm?

                        10mm

The 10mm is more versatile. You can go from a smoking fast 135 grain load to a heavy, deep penetrating 220 grain flat nose hardcast. It can be a home defense and backwoods caliber all in one. If I could only own one handgun, it would be in 10mm.

I'd buy both. Both fill a need. I have read accounts of S&W 10mm autos being not able to take high round counts but I have never fired any of the ones I've owned extensively and with full power loads.

I plan to go with the Sig P220 platform. Is 10mm better with it?

Well I have both in Glock format...

I don't notice much recoil difference but its a gun, gun has recoil.

                                10mm is more devastating. Period
45Acp is more economical, widely available and more accepted

I find the 10mm more fun and I am going to be doing some shooting on steel at distance to see which one gets back on target faster....
