    why the post office?

i do not get it, why no carry in a post office? as they claim they are not part of the government but a privet company? but claim fed protections.

sure i do not know much behind the counter, yes they move checks lots of valuable goods, so does many other delivery company's, but any crook looking to rob a post office would not care about a no guns police anyhow.

i deliver food for human needs, why not us? as what i deliver effects many people each day, times a couple million, (nation wide).

a shoot out at a post office, maybe a dozen peps at most, at just one shop i deliver to, could be up to fifty peps standing around.
    so not a numbers thing?
have heard of mail clerks stealing the mail,(no gun). but not the avg street thug.... or the mob.

please no flaming just a question. from one not in the know.

        'We are afraid of guns'.

There is no arguing with a phobia, expressed in US Code or Code of Federal Regulations.

They want to keep guns away from postal workers after what we went through in the 80s.

Ever hear the term "going postal" when someone loses it?

Some people seem to think gun free zones make people safer or at least thats what they claim. I think most of us that are pro gun know that gun free zones don’t help at all except the person looking to commit a crime, but what I really think is GFZ’s are just a another way impend a person right to self defense and have a way to charge gun owners with a crime.

Actually, no. That had little to do with the post office decision. See the post by Cokebottle post for the explanation.

yes the post office taks tax moneys to keep afloat, but always states not part of the fed government.
only said fed ex, ups as " other" delivery services.

the first " going postel" the perp used a cap and ball pistol.

There is no logical reason and it's likely to go away at some point, but it's low priority at the moment.

The problem with post office was similar to that of GFSZ - it included parking lots, which is a counterpart of the 1000 foot perimeter. The general idea behind these types of "bans" is to create "mine fields" for gun owners where one can commit a felony without knowing it, so people would choose not to carry even if allowed by their state. This is an intentional strategy pushed by gun control (oops, I mean "gun safety") groups.

USPS is in every city and handle more pieces of mail/parcels than ups/Fedex do in one year.... in one day.
I was at the post office some time back and a lady wanted to return a package to the sender...only problem was that the original carrier was UPS...not USPS. She spent 10 minutes yelling at the clerk (in broken english) that they had to take the package back for return shipment, then another 10 yelling at the station supervisor.

Finally someone that spoke her language explained it to her and she got very quiet. But still stormed out. Giving the finger to toward the counter.

                          Should have recorded it.

Actually it has to do with the robberies that occurred at post offices, mail trains and postal courier's in the early 1920's.
