If you are comfortable with the width of your options and only the grip (handle) length is the concern,

look at the various compacts version of the pistols you are considering as in California you can only carry 10 round mags max.

They have substantially shorter grips in most cases....

Have you looked at the 45 Shield?

Also, as others have mentioned consistent manual of arms is important for carry.

If you plan on switching between more than one pistol, consistent operation will reduce stress and potential confusion if you need to actually draw your weapon...

What ever you get, train with it.

Training is the fun part.
