LOL, I've only cleaned in my apartment once (usually wait till nobody is around and go out in front of my door with everything hidden in a box LOL) and it was on a desk not on the floor. I do use D-Lead on my face and hands after shooting and wear gloves while cleaning. Thank you for the list of less foul smelling cleaners, I'll have to check them out.

Ballistol works great, but that stench gave me smelly boogers for months. And my trunk stank for weeks just from transporting a pistol cleaned with it.LOL, I've only cleaned in my apartment once (usually wait till nobody is around and go out in front of my door with everything hidden in a box LOL) and it was on a desk not on the floor. Common sense precautions as said above.. Wash hands after shooting leave shoes worn at a indoor range outside.
But if you are really interested in your child's safety, never transport them in your car....Because they stand about a 1,000 more percent of a chance of permanent injury due to a car accident, than they do because of lead exposure from you shooting occasionally.Poke'm with a stick!

OP, understand, this is the internet, lots of jerks here as any other site on the web. You are expressing a concern for you child, nothing wrong with that. Don't take the jerks serious. I have been shooting for years as has my son. My grand has gone a couple of times.Troll post? I am looking for help, because it concerns me and there is so much information on the web that I don't know what to believe. Here is an example of an article: http://projects.seattletimes.com/201...d-with-lead/1/

This is the best write up I've seen on the subject, thank you for sharing. The only thing is that the author claims that pure lead vaporized from the base of FMJ bullets is worse then inhaling lead styphnate found in primers. I though it was the opposite since elemental lead is not soluble and the lead styphnate primer is? Regardless, very good write up and great research. The guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about.OP, understand, this is the internet, lots of jerks here as any other site on the web. Been in med field for awhile. Most of the time NEOs receive their lead test. I was concerned also but both my kids test negative. Negative as low lead exposure. Ignore these "youre a troll" post. Calguns has been a bit more low moral instead of the helpful community we were lead to believe like fighting amongst themselves.... ect. in healthcare, there is the threshold on lead exposure. Do your research. Most household products contain lead even if is not labeled.Comment

And now you're so concerned. Try to at least be consistent.I'm only in my early thirties, but when I was a kid I use to shoot lead pellets in my father's backyard all day long. I never washed my hands after handling them and before eating. Never gave it a second thought and I don't think I knew anyone (child of parent) that would have.
I guess I'm one of the aforementioned jerks because I still think he's being an over protective, helicopter parent.Comment

Be consistent? You want me to be consistent with my 10 year old self of 20 years ago? LOL, ok dude. I didn't know any better back then. I used to also not wear my seat belt back in the day until it was made a law in CA. Do you remember when nobody believed cigarettes caused lung cancer? Maybe I should stay consistent with the past and ignore all advancements in science and human knowledge. Wait, that'd make me more like you.Comment

Thanks, man. Definitely going to have my kid tested so I can confirm that the precautions I take are effective. What does NEO mean?Been in med field for awhile. I stand corrected! Elemental lead is "Insoluble in water but dissolves slowly in water containing a weak acid; soluble in dilute nitric acid." Looks like the author of this article is correct, since our stomach is slightly acidic element lead would be soluble in that environment. I researched the properties of lead styphnate and the compound is insoluble in most organic solutions. This is the best write up I've seen on the subject, thank you for sharing.
