I would have simply called ahead to confirm pickup after posted closing time.

But ya. I've never worked in a gun shop, I know they are busy. I work I the automotive buisiness and after a long tired day with no breaks, I can't stand people who are beating on the door after we have just closed shop. I wanna go home, and it's not my fault you came late for something that can wait til tommorow.

highly unlikely an owner would turn down $500-$750 worth of sales over 5 mins.

Also highly unlikely a mom and pop business owner wouldn't stay over 5 minutes to accommodate a customer after spending $500-$750.

          something don't sound right . . .

Haha. Do you guys even read the original post?

I showed up 20 minutes prior to closing and got nothing but attitude.

I get it. I'm in the wrong here obviously by trying to spend money at a retail front. My whole threads meaning was just for the lacking of customer service in an already difficult industry to sell in this state.

If this is such a burden for business owners no wonder the store is damn near empty every time I swung by.

Give em a break. Maybe they were having some personal problems and had to get out of there on time. You don't know. Quit whining.

I understand your frustration. If the pick-up time was outside their normal business hours, the LGS needed to make it the next day at the time they open. I had the same issue on a PPT. The 10th day was on a day they were closed. I usually wait a couple of days until after my actual pick-up date to fit my schedule.

Just make sure to pick-up before the 30 days are up or you will need to DROS it again. Since it was a store purchase it usually isn't a problem, but if it is a PPT, good luck getting the seller to come back.

Why was your pick up at 505 if they close at 5 and will not stay open after 5.
Maybe they had an appointment and could not stay?
I stay late for customers all the time. If I have some place to be I will walk out when I need too. I will also put a sign up as soon as I know. As in 10 days before.
Life happens most customers will understand.
Not staying 5 min when it's just a normal day IS bad service. Another way you could have done it was telling them you need to start you hand gun safety demonstration at 440. This way they would have your 4473 out get all the paper work done. Then at 505 hit deliver gun print sign thumb print and out the door at 506 if the printer takes that long

I'm surprised they didn't put the puckup day to next day if they will be closed at the end of the 10 days even if 5 mins. Customer service does pay sometimes.

I went to an out of the way gun shop back east in my travels 5-10 mins before closing last year. Due to owner not being a cock and staying open an extra 5 mins me and a friend spent over $500 on accessories and ammo.

Stuff you can tell had been sitting for years and gathering dust. If he would have shut the door he would have lost out.

unless there is an issue with their insurance about allowing people in after hours, I couldn't see the harm in waiting 5 minutes to help you out, after all, they did note your pickup time for 5:05 that day - maybe it was just an oversight on their part

regardless, get in there and get your gun and start enjoying it - that's a nice gift

Releasing a gun is not as simple as just handing it to you. There's still paperwork and releasing it on the DROS system. It can take some time. There's no law against them working after hours but at the same time they aren't obligated to do it also.

One thing to remember is that the employees(unless they are owners) don't really give a crap how much stuff you buy. So that point about spending $$ in the store isn't really going to do much. They are just like anyone else and want to go home the very second they can.

The problem is that the *****s already got your money.

Eh. It's his business, he can shoot himself in the foot if he likes. I've gone in to pick up a shotgun and delayed an hour and a half because they had other customers. They have no problem delaying the completion of a transaction to start another. Douche move, but there's worse.

Gun shops are a mess. There aren't very many good ones, which is why you love the good ones that much more.

I wouldn't spend any money there.
If I was the owner, I would fire the involved exployee.

I worked as a kitchen manager before. We often let the whole kitchen stay passed closing time just because a table or two were still there.

It is an elastic business. Your store depends on people handing over their hard earned cash. Simple as that.

A lot of good suggestions here already,
Explain your work schedule and why you need to pick it up today
Tell\show them the additional purchases you want to make IN ADDITION TO the pick up
Start the paperwork\demo early so as not to overly extend the 5:05 pick up time
(I've seen places that won't even start the pick up process until your pick up time)
Be cordial, they just went thru DROS h3ll for a month in December and are still reeling from it

If you didn't get your expected results doing the above then they don't deserve your business

This would be a strong incentive for the new businesses to enter the marketplace, and yet this is not happening.
