    Which glock for the boyfriend?

    Hi guys,

You guys probably know my boyfriend by the name of TonyKat on here. Anyway, so he left for army basic training a few days ago but I got to thinking. He will still be in basic for his birthday in March but I thought it might be a good idea to buy him a glock (in my name) send him a pic of me holding the new pistol and a letter for his birthday so he still knows his birthday is special even though he is not home. Then of course when he is home we can do a private party transfer.

So here is the dilemma- he has talked about wanting the glock 19 for a while but obviously those have been extremely hard to find (i tried to get one for christmas and failed miserably) but now there is a new glock (.45 i think).

First off, is this a good idea? Secondly Glock 19 or the new Glock?

    Thank you!

Glock 19 if that's what he wants. Can't go wrong with the 19.

It might be better to wait till he gets back so it can be put directly into his name. Having it transferred to you with the intent of giving it to him might be considered a "straw" sale by some.

You are such a wonderfull gal, with getting your man a Glock!

If he likes 45ACP, get him a G21, but if he has small hands, the grip may be too big.

If he likes 9mm, get him the G19(compact) or G17(full size/service model).

If you find one at a gun shop I'm sure you can work out putting a large deposit down, or buying it and having the shop hold it until your BF gets back - you can then take him in and surprise him with the DROS paperwork.

That is a great idea! I think that is what I will do. I think I am going to stick with the glock 19 because that is what he has been wanting for a long time. If he wants the new glock then he can have that too when he gets out.. maybe for our anniversary in August.. gosh.. guys are so easy to buy for :P

Not really a straw purchase. Because she talked about doing a ppt with her bf. That requires him doing a dros which includes a background check. If the OP did it that way, it would be justified but a little more costly because she will be paying for dros twice.

I know that he is also interested in collecting a bunch of lowers so he can build on them later. So I guess now I have to figure out if i want to do both the lower and the glock or just the glock. It would seem that the lower would be logical because they may be banned soon. Hmmmmmmm.......

macgurl, just get him the gun and don't worry about the "Straw Purchase" thing, that is absurd and it would not apply to your situation at all. I would go ahead and get him the lower now since he already has a hand gun. If you get him the lower, chances are that he will marry you. LOL.

Isn't the definition of a straw purchase, buying a gun then transferring it illegally to someone that can't legally own a firearm anyway? Doesn't seem if everything is legal and the transfer done through a FFL is a straw purchase to me.

Is one lower better than another? Right now I know he has a Stag lower and he has another one on the way but I forget what brand it is. I would like to get him the best that is out there... Is there a best?

I don't know too much about lowers (obviously) but I know that they might be banned so I am leaning on the idea of maybe getting him a few while he is gone. He will be gone for 6 months so thats a lower every 2 months.. Can a man have enough lowers? IDK

Not really.. Its more of a "brand name"

                        I say yeah, get him a handgun. I have a G19.. It's great!

Girl, just get him what ever lower you can get now. You get that man more than one lower by the time he comes back, he will marry you right there on the spot. Start looking for good deals on ammo too, so that he can have ammo to feed his guns when he gets back.

I go to walmart once a week and stock up on .223 and 9mm for him. He has a foot locker that I hope to have full by the time he gets home. I just want everything for him to be perfect when he gets home for the first time in 6 months you know?

Well, you are doing the right things to make a man happy after he gets back from Boot Camp. Don't forget the t-bone steaks also.

Hopefully there are some female Cal Gunners that will link up with you to go check out the lowers and or guns at the gun stores. If you ever have any questions, just post them here and we will all do our best to help you out and to ensure that you don't get ripped off.
