    Clap, lights turn on.

    Double tap, lights flickering.

    Perfect!

A weapon light frees up your hands and lights up the target, but you have to point the gun at everything you want to illuminate (i.e. the dog, the neighbor, the off-spring sneaking in after hours). A hand-held light gives safer illumination .

Never understood this train of thought . Do you own /use a cheap Weapon light ? My Tlr 1 will light up an entire room . If I point the pistol 4 ft in front of my feet . Same with the back yard . No need to point your loaded firearm at anyone . As far as night sights showing the bad guy to your location . Most likely if your in the area of a bad guy and they are seeing your nights sights both of you know your there .

If it's dark enough to see night sights from the wrong angle, it's probably dark enough that you shouldn't be pulling the trigger since you have no idea what you're aiming at.

All sights turn black with a light on.
Go ahead and get out of fantasy world and get off the square range.
Get some warren sevigny FOs and a nice light.

American soldiers would keep the empty clips in their pockets and fling one to get the Germans to pop up thinking the soldier was empty...then bang.

You need to figure what is most likely, what you can live with, what you can't live with, and then decide what's the best compromise.
                  Great advice.

I realize the OP was over two weeks ago, but I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread I've just discovered. Many lulz to be had.

Install motion detecting light switches and they will do the work for you automatically.

As others pointed out, if the perp is behind you and you don't even realize it, you're dead anyways.

Does your bedroom have like 7 doors that all open silently? Maybe you need to start hanging bells from the doorknobs everywhere.

If you're still seriously concerned after all the sarcastic comments in here including my own, here's a real suggestion - use a reflex sight instead of iron sights. You can't see the lit dot unless you're looking at the POI through the lens, which wouldn't be possibly unless the perp removes your head first, since it will be in the way. My HD shotgun uses a Trijicon RMR, and in technical terms, it's freakin' rad.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.
