Not sure of the number of individual firearms but I know I have 2 large and 1 medium safes full and one I keep out and loaded.
    Does that count?
I gave up years ago when I hit 140. Then I sold some that I had multiples of to hunt Africa. So I am not sure now.
The only number I keep track of is how many I take with me when I go to the range or hunting. That is what is important. Bring back the same amount(or more) than you leave the house with.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I did tell my wife I would sell one or two, I just did not mention when.

Time to head to the Marketplace so I can fix the problem!
        Well.... what is the number?

No, no, no, the answer is ONE.

              One on my hip.
              One in the bag.
              One in the car.
              One here, one over there...

              See?

I've found it's easy to keep track. I just check the spread sheet. I may however have to add a column to remember where I've stashed all of them.
EDIT: oops just looked at the sheet. It's off by the 3 featureless 80% ARs I finished up.

I decided I needed to track info better a few years ago when I couldn't think of them all. I include the price I paid and current market value. When I sell, I track that too. Every now and again I update the current market value. Kinda fun, like tracking your investment portfolio.

I have an Excel spreadsheet with make, model, serial, special notes as to rarity, value and who gets it after my death.

A separate section for what to do with the NFA items and CA law specifics.

                      I have a spreadsheet also.
Make, model, SN, appx. current value, special modifications, number of mags.
Have to add the two most recent additions.
                      Thanks for reminding me.

                        Not a bad idea.

My greatest fear is at my estate sale, my wife will sell my guns and guitars for what she thinks I paid for them
