    Do you car carry?

I've been told that in California, we can carry a rifle anywhere in the car as long as it's unloaded, and if in a Gun Free School Zone, it needs to be locked.

Do any of you carry your rifle while driving?

I have always kept my upper and lower disassembled in a tactical bag in the trunk, but I was thinking of using a standard gun case and when I'm in the car, taking the gun out and keeping it on the passenger seat, when leaving the car, putting the gun back in the case.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

I guess it kinda does, that's more of locked at all times, not easily accessible if something bad happened.

Having the your upper split from the lower in a bag, in the trunk, I wouldn't imagine as any more "at the ready". Just saying.

Yea, I know. I'm considering carrying it in an, "at the ready" style and trying to get people advice, opinions, and feedback about it.

Why not just a handgun? Is it the Locked case requirements?

A handgun would seem more reasonable and easier to conceal and a better option to use in case of an emergency to access.

I'm not 20, not 21, and yes, locked case is an issue.

You tried getting a CCW Permit in Santa Clara? Also, I'm not 21.

Not trying to stereotype or generalize, but the five O probably won't take kindly to any encounter of that kind ... Particularly at that age. Even in the best of circumstances it will come across as the "am I being detained" troll type...which again they don't like

I read on the Internet that carrying a rifle in the car was a bad idea, so I only carry one when I ride my bike.

When I drive my truck I just carry my CCW handgun.

In Texas I kept a yugo m92 with a pistol brace on backseat floor of my Kia Forte. Just threw a crummy blanket on it to hide it. Totally legal In Texas even with a full mag inserted and a round in the pipe. I didn't keep one in the chamber though.

When I first moved here I kept a maverick 88 under the backseat in my F150. It has to be unloaded but the ammo can be right beside it. I also kept a copy of the applicable laws to look up if a LEO freaked out and assumed I was violating the law. Not a foolproof plan but hopefully IF that was an issue, my attitude and demeanor would earn me the benefit of the doubt while the officer looked it up or called a superior for clarification.

Now that I'm a school student, I don't keep a truck gun as its too much of a pain removing it or putting it back inside before or after every trip to school. If I had a garage it wouldn't be an issue but since I park on the street, dealing with a locked case or even wrapping it in blankets and walking it out twice a day would get old. Plus I'm sure somebody would eventually notice and then my trucks an obvious location for an easy gun. I'm not crazy about that

I read that same article so I only carry a 12ga on my tractor.
