Why such panic on stripped lowers?

If this has been discussed already, I will gladly delete this thread, but it's kind of hard to weed through ALL the "How do I make my rifle featureless?" threads...

I may be ignorant or reading something wrong in new bills. And I know nothing is set in stone. Why is there such a panic that nobody will be able to buy stripped lowers after this year? The laws on stripped lowers are not changing. DOJ does not know whether that stripped lower will be used for a featureless or even a rim fire firearm.

Maybe someone else can elaborate for me, but I just don't see the reason to panic. I have enough AR pattern rifles in their respective configurations, and I don't need more. Just wondering this subject and possibly offering a little relief to the panic people

Not sure in California, but here in Florida, just after the Orlando shooting we sold out our entire stock of stripped lowers in two days and have not been able to replace them from our distributors.
As for AR's, we ended up buying about 50 CA compliant S&W's just to have AR's in stock. We then had to buy mag release buttons for each one and have our gunsmith switch them out with the BB's, and also put a 30 round mag in the box taking out the 10 rounder.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

Because it's cheaper than buying a complete rifle.

I still see lowers panic is not in full swing yet. Aids gun shop in Orange still had a lot of them a few days ago.

          1. They probably don't understand the new law. Average joe doesn't know what featureless is.

          2. They know and want to register it as a AW next year so they can build something with features at a later date.

You can modify your personal gun all day long. However, when it comes to business, the question of liability pops up immediately. If it's discovered that non-licensed person altered a gun, it may turn out real bad for the seller.

I was just going to post something about this. I considered buying 10 lowers and selling them to buddies once December hits because I know they will procrastinate, but the fact is stripped lowers are not planned to be outlawed, and they'd have a hard time outlawing them. Specifically outlawing "FEATURELESS" rifles in the future would be much easier for lawmakers, and I do see that happening. However stripped lowers are not fire arms, and it would be hard to outlaw a piece of metal that can potentially be made into a Rimfire rifle just as easy as any other...if anyone else can provide logical information on why people should stock up on lowers, please let us know so I can buy now lol

I thought stripped lowers (in ca) were considered The Firearm,,,thus the DROS!?

I clearly cannot talk "for everybody," but my guess is that in CA the run on lowers is to keep one's options open.

While they will most likely remain available for featureless builds for a while(this can change overnight with another law,) if one is to register a few and create standard rifles (CA calls them AWs,) some sort of the lower is required. A stripped lower fits the purpose nicely as it's cheap and doesn't commit one to the specific parts or uppers.

Yes (and not just in CA) - the part with the serial number is "the firearm." With AR pattern rifles it's the lower.

Ah finally. I figured out all the other acronyms around here but OLL had me stumped from the beginning.
